I have several alternative versions of movies that I’ve split apart from the standard version and added alternative posters and metadata, etc. I’ve noticed, when scanning for new content, it rejoins them again.
What’s the point of having an option to split the files apart, if Plex reverses it on the next scan? I’m pretty sure it never used to do that, though I could be wrong.
Would anyone know of a way to ensure the changes I make to the metadata remains permanent?

OK, update the server software to 1.28.1
If you are already on this version, stop the server and restart it, or reboot the device it’s running on.

(scroll down to “Multiple Editions”)
It appears the Edition tag can now also be used when editing an item’s metadata. 
In other forum posts folks had mentioned this tag could not be edited and Plex responded by saying it was prematurely added to the dialogue. Glad to see it’s now working, but I never saw an announcement. In any case, thanks for pointing to the new documentation!
