Multiple Movie Editions Renaming Bug?

Server Version#: Version 1.40.2.8395
Player Version#: 1.93.0.144-9b2f4a13

Weird problem here. I have a fair few movies with different editions like Director’s cut etc. The movie files are also all grouped together in Plex.

So started manually adding the edition tag to the movie filenames ( eg Aliens 1986 {edition-Director’s Cut}.mkv )

Plex rescans the movie file name and the movie appears with the correct metadata and edition tag in Plex. However it also splits off from the the other editions it was grouped with and now appears as it’s own item in Plex.

The big problem now is that the movie no longer appears in Plex search. I can only access the movie by browsing to it manually or finding it via actor / director etc.

Also, if I remove the file & get rid of the edition tag in the file name, empty trash/clean bundles and add the file back, it appears in Plex but is still not picked up by search. It also still displays the previous Edition tag I had in the filename but which I removed. So looks like despite deleting the item from Plex, when added again, it still remembers which Edition it was.

Thought maybe it’s a corrupt database but I ran a database check and all seems ok (ChuckPA’s Plex DBRepair Tool).

Anyone else experiencing this or any suggestions?

PS Problem doesn’t happen if you manually add the edition tag within the Plex GUI, only happening if rename the actual file with the edition tag.

Which kind of search exactly?

It is expected that the movie with an edition tag is not appearing within the filmography of an actor.
This is a limitation with the current implementation of the editions feature.

That is the whole reason for the editions feature to exist.
You should however see an additonal hub on the movie’s preplay page, which points to the other edition(s) of the movie:
