I recently noticed that my Plex server has stopped working correctly.
I’ll try to explain the situation as clearly as possible.

I have Plex running on a VPS, and I’ve never had any issues with it, but since yesterday this has been happening:

When I access Plex from my TV, I noticed that the libraries no longer appear, as if the server were down. However, if I connect from the PC app, everything shows as online.

After looking into it, I realized that if I open the VPS server URL in my browser — for example (I’ll invent an IP):

12.22.100.52:32400/web

I can access everything: libraries, server administration, and even check whether there’s any port issue, but nothing seems wrong. I have port 32400/tcp open so connections from outside my home network can access it, and Plex reports that everything is OK and that the server is reachable from outside.

Now here’s the problem:
When I log in through https://app.plex.tv/ — for example, going to Google, typing “Plex login”, and signing in — it does not connect to my server. It tells me it’s unable to connect securely to the server, even though accessing it directly via the VPS IP works perfectly.

I also tried reclaiming the server in case that was the issue, but the problem remains.

My question is whether this issue might be external to me. I’ve checked the VPS configuration, port 32400 is open, and I don’t have any firewall active.

I’ve read that this could be due to expired certificates or something similar, and that they might need to be renewed?

I’m not sure what happened because all of this started without me changing anything. I didn’t update the server or modify any configuration — the problem appeared on its own.

“securely” means it is trying to use the *.plex.direct domain name that your server has been assigned automatically when it was claimed into your account.
This certificate was due to renewal a month ago, but got stuck in “pending” state.

I have revoked the certificate now.
Stop and restart your server, then let it sit for a few hours.

Now it’s working!

I’m stopping and restarting the server — it usually runs 24/7, so there shouldn’t be any problem with that.

I just hope the certificate doesn’t get stuck again. :frowning:
