Yeah, I wanted to use the Mac as a server simply because it gets used for little else these days, and didn’t want to bog down my already overworked main machine
I do also have a Raspberry Pi, but I’m sure that’s not up to the job of transcoding.
I’ll do that though. I was pondering setting it up, and this machine is on most of the time.

Perhaps cut the Mac out altogether and get me a nice NAS instead…

Ah well, forget that route then. Better off buying a cheap living room PC, I don’t really want the main machine I work on being used as a media server at the same time.
On another, Mac-specific, thread on here someone has suggested I can roll back the version because there are other Mac users with server crashing problems, etc. so I’ll give that a go too.
B
Was thinking of an NVidia Shield. We already have a Steam Link, but perhaps the Shield would be a better choice overall. I think it’s powerful enough to transcode, no?
B
That’s not a problem. There’s a multi-TB drive attached to the Mac. I can either move it over or just use it over the network (all wired).
B
And it seems like things are settling down anyway. I can access my server from my phone, the people I share with can too, I just need to check my Roku when I get home. Hope I don’t jinx it by saying so!
Anyway, I think we’re done for now at least. Shall I just mark any one of your responses as having answered the question?
Thanks again,
B
