Greetings-
Thank you! I can reproduce it 100% of the time. I would be happy to work with you to get this resolved. Please let me know!
I too can reproduce it every time ā Iām sure one of us could provide logs?
Just want to add my name to the list as also experiencing this issue. It happens 100% of time the device tries to autoplay x265 content. The exact same behaviour is happening on two different chromecasts w/ google TV that I have. Chromecast crashes every time. Completely unusable at this point.
Also adding my name to the list. Both CCwGTV do the same thing.
Super annoying trying to watch anything h265 on the google tv. 3+months please fix!
100% reproducible over here. Every episode of HEVC content on autoplay, every time. Only happens with the CCwGTV, but not with the Roku Ultra or Apple TV. The content isnāt even HDR, just HEVC encoded (and I really donāt want to redo 18 seasons of content just for the chromecast).
Content is 708x480, 24p, HEVC main 10 in an mkv, with AAC stereo audio. If I donāt stop the autoplay, guaranteed to crash every single time the exact same way as shown in the video above - āzoomedā in, plays for a few seconds, crashes the CCwGTV, restart then I can play again. Had to switch to JF for this since its for my daughter.
I think this should help. Another user reported this;
- Chromecast with Google TV, connected to an AVR or soundbar (without the AVR or soundbar HEVC videos play correctly).
- HEVC Main 10 video seems to be the common culprit.
I am using optical out from the TV to my soundbar. Maybe others are using an AVR or soundbar as well? Could be why you are having issues replicating it. I personally havenāt removed my soundbar, but it definitely seems like an exoplayer issue and not Plex itself.
i am not using a soundbar. just the analog out from my monitor which the chromecast is plugged in via hdmi to.
I think bencmeyer is on to something. I just tried playing a hevc video file on my bedroom Chromecast for the first time and it works perfectly. The Chromecast in my bedroom connects directly to the tv and there is no soundbaror receiver.
When I play this same file on my basement Chromecast, which is connected through an AV Receiver, I get the zoomed in video that is unwatchable. Then if I back out of the video the Chromecast crashes completely.
does 1/8" analog headphone out of a monitor count as the same thing you guys are doing? cause i have all the issues with hevc and no soundbar no bluetooth, just some nice large speakers plugged into a crappy amp with an aux cable.
I have the crashing behavior on a Chromecast connected directly to a TV, no soundbar or other audio devices connected.
I have got myself a Chromecast with Google TV in order to better understand the issues. But sadly struggling to replicate the issues as they have been described.
Iāve seen the zoomed in HEVC video though this seemed to fix itself after a minute of playback.
Has there been a particular audio format used which is passed through to the AVR / soundbar?
Those that are seeing the full device reboot, are you using the USB plug and cable that came with the device or are you connecting the USB through another device?
My setup:
- Original USB plug and cable that came with the device
- Plugged into HDMI2 of my Soniq N55UX17C-AU 55" 4K
- Speaker system plugged into 3.5mm jack of TV
I can confirm the issue occurs with multiple types of HEVC files.
Does each file youāve tried have different audio formats?
@sixones The last files I can remember:
#1
Ā· 1080p (HEVC Main 10)
Ā· EAC3 STEREO
#2
Ā· 4K (HEVC Main)
Ā· AC3 5.1
Thanks.
Just managed to replicate the freezing and stuttered playback by using a Yamaha AVR instead of a cheap soundbar, doesnāt seem to matter on the audio format as the issue happens with EAC3 and AC3.
Will investigate.
I donāt think so. Probably just the monitor itself.
We havenāt seen the video fix itself, that could be due to not wanting to wait that long, but if we let the video auto play it will crash when pausing or backing out to the episode listings. If you stop the auto play and select the episode manually from the episode screen, all good.
It definitely seems like it has to do with that countdown/play next screen. Even if we stop the countdown and try to select something on that auto play screen, it will look like itās working and then reset as well.
Using the Google ethernet usb adapter, but without ethernet plugged in.
All files are direct play;
HEVC, mp4 720p or 1080p
AAC 192kbps 2 channel or AC3 384kbps 6 channel
Iāve just had a conversation with someone on Reddit who claims he had several units, none of which exhibited these faults. He also says he doesnāt own them anymore, which doesnāt help at all, but Iām wondering if there might be different hardware revisions. I have four units and they all have the same issues as everybody else here.
The details of the devices are ā¦
Kernel: 4.9.180 (Fri May 7 04:21:10 UTC 2021)
Android TV OS Build: QTS1.210311.008.7350836
What issue do you see on your device?
I have the same kernel and OS build as you, but I only see issues when playing HEVC HDR movies, if I play HEVC episode content then all is fine. I also donāt see the issue when the next episode starts to play, the next episode starts successfully without any zoom or issues.
I might need access to the same content that is triggering the count down issue for me to replicate.
