Samsung TV UE55JS8000 smart TV
I believe this model to be 2015. I use Plex on my PC which is in the bedroom upstairs.
I run a media server from it where I can pick up my Plex movies on my samsung s9 and various other media devices around the house but the Plex app on the smart TV consistently just says that the server is not available, even though I can see the server IS available as one of the sources of the TV.
The Plex app on the TV is also showing the old name of my PC and not the new one. It’s driving me loopy that everything works fine apart from a £1200 TV. !
Does anyone have any ideas why this is not working or is it just the app is too new for the TV Even though it’s present and downloadable?
Smart View from Samsung works a treat but that does not show your movie library and you cannot control your PC library from the TV with the Samsung app.
Please help if you can, I’m going grey very quickly!!
More like: the Samsung is logged into a different plex.tv account.
I guess you used a different account previously and the tv is still logged into this old account.
It has no way of accessing your server on the new account – unless you share your new server with your old account.
(requires you to still have access to the old account, to accept the invitation)
Guys I cannot thank you both enough. A very long long time ago (probably in a galaxy far far away) too I tried to get this working and gave up. (we are talking a few years!)
I have tried for the past few days again and nothing until having spoken to you.
Having read the manuals and put them into some kind of English, I tried and tried but my poor brain just couldn’t suss it out.
Something just fell into place when looking at my TV apps and what it was, was the smallest of symbols when I went into my tv apps. I assumed the tv like many other devices would download the latest updates automatically but NO!! I clicked on update for the plex app and it did its thing and said complete! mmmmmm I thought.
When I reopened it, it gave me a code and I ran upstairs and got straight onto the web, opened up the plex web address and entered the code and BOOM!
No it didn’t blow up, in fact it all works perfectly.
I cannot thank you enough for your help and for what somehow made me think in a different way and I have solved something that I gave up on such a long time ago as I just deemed it not possible!
I feel a little silly (and the odd tear) now but something that has eluded me for so long is now working!!
