Plex Samsung SmartTV (series 6) app sign-in without internet

Hi all,

I have a private network for my office that doesn’t need internet. I just moved my Samsung SmartTV K6500. Every time I open Plex Samsung App it goes to sign-in option. In the main house the TV worked 100% with the internet. Because if I allow internet to my private subnet, the TV works. but my issue is that I don’t need internet for this private subnet, I use it local as being where all my work is stored, and this is my life backups I can’t risk it. I allowed the internet and went to the PLEX APP SETTINGS to manually point it to my local Plex Media Server, it worked. but the following day it was the same issue.

Question:
How do I bypass the sign-in internet option on the Plex Samsung App for the Series 6 (k6500).
Please help to bypass the internet sign-in option. Please help!

From what I remember, the Samsung TVs don’t actually install their apps but only a basic loader. The actual app is always loaded over the net… so no internet , no Plex on the smart tv :anguished:

Use a streaming stick / box - Amazon, Apple, Nvidia, Roku, etc. - and connect it to whatever part of your network that has Internet access.

EDIT: I was mistaken. The TV runs Tizen. See post below.
The K6500 uses an user developed app. It is no longer supported by the developer. It probably no longer works as there have been security and other updates to Plex Media Server.

I did install the Plex app via the Smasung smarthub. The issue that I’m having it’s with the app start-up it continuously asks for sign-in on boot/app-opening. It does it also with the internet connected but it offers more options like sign-in | sign-up | skip sign-in.

I also have the Samsung smart-tv (series 5) 40" inch that was connected where the K6500 (65’ inch) is connected now with issues. The Series 5 works 100% with or without internet. The aim is to upgrade as I have my surveillance system using the same TV where it gives big picture due to the size. What I don’t understand is that with the internet it offers more options like sign-in | sign-up | skip sign-in, but without internet just one option “sign-in”.

Edit: I was mistaken. I thought the K6500 was pre-Tizen (tech specs).

However, @tom80H is correct. The TV requires an Internet connection to load the app. What is on the TV is a basic bootloader program. Once loaded, it may work without an Internet connection. However, if the app is ever flushed from the TV (power off, etc) it will need an Internet connection to reload it.

I’ve an LG that works the same way. I’ve used the hot-spot on my phone to load the app, then reconnect the TV to my home Wi-Fi. It is a pain, but it worked.

The app was last updated in 2018. There have been many changes to Plex Media Server since then.

Here’s some additional information that may help:

@FordGuy61

Much appreciated, I’ll play with the configs and see how far I get. I’ll update later for results.

Yesterday, I went to my parents as they’re using the UA49K6500BKXXA (49’ inch) which is the same as my UA55K6500BKXXA (55’ inch). Went by the hop-spot config method then switching back to WLAN, it worked. I then did the 2 scenarios of unplug from the socket wall (load shedding style) and even gracefully switch it off. Where I have manually setup plex server IP (local connection) on the UA49K6500BKXXA (49’ inch). It still worked.

So, I decided that my task for the UA55K6500BKXXA (55’ inch) is to try and reload the firmware on the 55’ inch. Do the Hotspot\WLAN method again to see if it would work. I’ll update on the results later.

Again, Thanks guys for the effort.
