Plex server at home and work

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488-cc260c476
Player Version#: NA

So I have a synology server at home and one at work. I have the work one for when I travel I can stream movies because of the gigabit connection. I just realized recently that in the dashboard it doesn’t see the plex server I installed on my work synology but only sees the synology at home. Any ideas on how to link plex servers into one account that’s in 2 different locations?

Did you use different accounts when you set each server up???

Nope used the same accounts.

Give the servers static ip adress and in client you can add servers by ip (check your ports if changed)

When you use the Web App, on the left side select “Status” then select “Authorized Devices”… Do you see both servers listed there with any apps associated with your account???

Only see 1 server atm since i"m home.

So I launch the server from synology and it opens up the server login and I enter my credentials. It only seems t o show up with the one synology which is my home.

Sounds like a firewall issue at work. You need to open a network port to allow the traffic through. If you don’t own the work network you need someone in charge of the firewall to allow the traffic through.

If you used the Web App like I asked and only see the one server under “Authorized Devices”, that suggests to me they are NOT on the same PLEX account… It shouldn’t matter where the servers are located, if they are currently powered on, or port settings… All devices (including servers) listed under that tab are the items associated with (or claimed) under the account you currently are logged into…

I have only ever had 1 plex account. Ports are open on both synology machines. When I log into my work synology and click the plex media server it opens up but it seems to be logging into the synology I have at home even though I log into the work synology. When I say work it’s just an apt I have rented separately that I use for work sometimes so there is no corporate firewall just a router I installed.

Did you give these two servers the same name by chance???

No no, different names so I could tell them apart and besides that they are different machines. One is a 918+ the other a 218+

Edit: I guess I’ll try to go to my “office” and log in form there to see if I get the same issues when I’m on the same network. It could be because I was trying to login remotely. I should be able to get a better picture once I do that. I should also setup VPN while I’m there just in case.

Just because they are on different machines doesn’t mean you didn’t give them or they adopted by default the same name, just had to ask because I know that is something that will cause trouble…

Just to be sure you are using the address “app.plex.tv” and not “127.0.0.1:32400” to check about “Authorized Devices”??? You are checking this from something besides your Synology as well, like a laptop or desktop???

This may be something specific to the Synology, which I really know nothing about, but if one server shows up under the “Authorized Devices” then there should be no reason the other one won’t (doesn’t matter if local or remote) since that list is directly tied to your account…

Yea on the synology when you install the plex server app it adopts the server name you gave the synology machine. by default.

So the authorized device I only see is the home synology server. Whenever I go into the work synology machine and click to launch the plex server there it opens up http://officeip:32400 and has me login with my plex credentials. I guess my next question would be how do I add a server manually to my plex account? Through the site or…? Thanks.

FYI - There should be a way to change the default name on the “General” tab for the server to give it a “Friendly Name”…

If you are using http://officeip:32400, that is pretty much the same thing as 127.0.0.1:32400… That is why I asked you to use https://app.plex.tv to check and please use something besides the Synologys to check…

So I’m not using the synology to check. I open up using the app.plex.tv and I only see the home synology machine. How do I add another server?

Edit: Also I’m not too worried about the name as keeping it the name of the synology server I set is more helpful for my use.

I’m not sure you can add a server manually, I don’t ever remember seeing anyone ever ask to do that…

Do you remember having to claim both servers when you set them up???

I’m not sure as the synology server in the office was setup brand new about 2 weeks ago. I don’t think I ever did need to claim it.

I am going to uninstall plex server on the office synology and reinstall to see what happens.

Every server I ever set up has always had to be claimed to a PLEX account… Again, maybe something specific to the Synology… But how would it know which account the server belonged to if you didn’t…

The only other thing I can suggest at this point is to go back over posts in the forum for other posts on Synology related problems and see which PLEX employee, Ninja, or Moderator answered and note them in your next post…

Sorry, I am out of ideas and couldn’t help you get it figured out…
