I have the most recent version of Plex server. I have The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Plex is unable to match it despite my putting in the series id from https://www.thetvdb.com/. The ID is 372787. I put this in as the title, and ensure I’m using thetvdb agent. It constantly tells me that it can’t find the show. Any idea what is going on here? The shows play just fine, but I want the match.
If you are not using the naming convention in addition to the TVDB ID then it is unlikely to work. Examples and explanation on: Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files | Plex Support
I am using the convention, and based on the Plex article all I have to do is put in the series ID and it will pull up the match. Now it’s failing to find season 2 of Batman Brave and the Bold which it can’t even match and is ignoring Resident Evil Infinite Darkness. Can Plex maybe hire programmers that know what they’re doing? My other TV series follow the exact same naming pattern, is there a log somewhere that might help?
Show your file names and the folder structure please.
I finally got it to work with the series ID, magically it worked. Now I’m having issues with Fear the Walking Dead. I just got season 6 and Plex refuses to recognize it. When I copy the files into the folder, Plex actually starts to do it’s little orange circle spin…then nothing, it only shows five seasons. Here is my folder structure:
I’ve done the plex dance as best I can, the article I found was from 2017, so a lot of the steps didn’t apply anymore. Can someone please help, I’m really getting sick of this. Ghost Hunters is doing the same thing, I bought seasons 1 through 6 and it only recognizes season 1.
Two things:
- make absolutely sure that only the folder
R:\TV Showshas been added to your Plex library. Not one folder level above, nor below it. In particular, do not add individual tv shows on the “Add Folders” tab. - I recommend using 2-digit season numbers everywhere. That includes the folder names of the season folders. (Except when the season number has actually 4 digits.)
Unbelievable. There’s an option to upgrade the scanner or something like that when I went to scan the libraries. Once I chose that option, it disappeared but a scan of my TV shows immediately started without my need to do so. And just like magic, shows/seasons started to appear. This tells me that there is nothing wrong with my naming conventions but rather with Plex. Why I had to do this manually instead of this improved scanner being enabled by default I’ll never know, but this whole Plex dance nonsense has to go. I’ve lost quite a bit of faith in Plex and am considering switching back to K*di, which my wife uses. I went ahead and attached a debugger to the process and the folders are being seen but apparently something wrong is happening afterwards, I saw access to the cache but no changes. For Ghost Hunters, I never changed a single filename or folder structure, it was only by updating the scanner by way of the context menu (the three vertical dots where you can scan your library, manage your library, etc) where I found this. If anyone has any insight I’d love to know, but I do greatly thank everyone for your help.
It is the default now for newly created libraries. It is not done automatically for existing libraries, hence why the menu item exists.
With the new agent, you should almost never need to perform the dance again.
The conversion to the new agent is only completed after “Refresh Metadata” for the whole library has been performed.
Was this menu item published on the forums somewhere? It is very, very possible I missed it. Is there harm in changing it automatically?
Refresh metadata does not solve the problem as I did that after the new agent. I’m now adding Westworld and the same Plex dance nonsense is happening again. I had to move all the folders out, do the dance, then add them back one at a time. Again, no change to folder structure or filenames.
Yes, since the new agent isn’t based on Python anymore, you lose access to all 3rd-party agents. e.g. the .nfo importer or the specialized Anime or Adult agents, or the automatic subtitle mass-downloaders.
Please edit your library, go to the “Add Folders” tab, and show a screenshot of this dialog.
Please do also copy the first ~15 lines of the Plex XML info of a mismatched episode.
