I just upgraded my libraries and one show is not found and does not provide any correct match option. Looney Tunes, the original shorts, not an actual TV show. They are TVDB id 72514.
But when I click “Fix Match” there is only one agent now? “Plex TV Series” is the only thing in the drop down. How do I get theTVDB back as my agent? Or how do I get this set of shorts added to the new plex agent?
From the fix match, just enter tvdb-72514 in the title field and click search and it will find this show.
The new agent uses data from both TVDB and TheMovieDB.
If you click on the edit icon (pen/pencil icon) and then go to advanced, you can change the episode ordering from the library default (which I believe might be TheMovieDB when you upgrade/create a new TV library). You can also change the default for the library by editing the library and going to advanced and making the change there.
After you update that (either library level or show level) you would need to do a metadata refresh to have the change update.
Thanks @shark2k, that’s not intuitive, but seems to have found the right series and show poster. And I changed episode ordering to theTVDB (absolute). But after Refresh Metatdata there still is NO show info for each episode. Does it populate in the background or something?
yep, thanks. Seems weird to be doing ANY of this junk, however. The old system of agents figured all this out without intervention. I never had to type “tvdb-72514” into anything. I never had to know aired-order versus absolute. Old plex just figured it out by itself.
I can’t say why you had issues with this show and the new agent, however I recently upgraded my TV library to use the new agent and I’ve been going through all the series that were still on the old agent and manually refreshing the metadata (I’m a glutton for punishment and want to make sure any poster changes get reverted back if I don’t care for them) and I haven’t had any issues with previous series matching.
I would be curious as to what your file structure looks like for this particular series as you could have just been getting lucky with the old agent/scanner working.
Also, regarding the tip I gave for the fix match, the document needs to be updated by Plex for the new agent, but it’s mentioned here in the tips Fix Match / Match | Plex Support and using the IMDB (for movies) or the TVDB (for series) worked in fix match for the old agent as well.
Nothing interesting or remarkable AFAIK.
/Cartoons/Looney Tunes folder. Cartoons is the library
Previous agents found this as thetvdb shorts series without any intervention on my part. I did not ever even have to “fix match”. It just worked. Did not need the first year (1929) in anything either.
EDIT: I did do an old fashioned “plex dance” - rename library folder, delete library from plex, re-add library, before I got “stuck” on this issue.
So based on that screenshot, is it safe to assume that you don’t have season folders for each year and just have all the files in the root of the Looney Tunes folder (unlike how @FordGuy61 shows in his first response)?
If that’s the case, then I’m thinking that might have something to do with it. I’m not really familiar with the under-workings of the scanner, but I believe the new one is a little more strict in regards to its matching so following the Plex recommendation for naming and directory structure becomes more important.
Unfortunately, not following the recommendation in the past and having it work and find series/movies, sets people up for possible issues in the future (unintentionally). Just because something “worked” doesn’t actually mean it should have been working and fixes/updates to the program in the future could cause it to break (again if not following the recommendations).
Ultimately though, you got the series to show in your library again and you’ve learned some tips to use for fix match (you can use tvdb-###### or tmdb-##### for series and imdb-###### or tmdb-##### for movies) as well as the fact that you can put those same ID format, in curly braces { }, in the folder name only (for TV series) and the folder name and file name (for movies). That last one actually has the benefit because it means that the scanner is going to match it to the proper show/movie right away with no additional intervention.
Yes, correct. I’ve never had any season folders for Looney Tunes. I also have no Season folders for “Better Call Saul”, “Family Guy”, “This Old House” and many others. All of which properly matched with the new and old library system.
I was thinking it had more to do with Looney Tunes being a “short” and not a true TV series. Because when I was searching to find a match it offered 5 or 6 different TV shows with “Looney” in the title, but never the original Looney Tunes SHORTS.
Rule #1: stick to the naming guide. https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
If you ignore the guide, Plex may recognize your content correctly, but that is not guaranteed.
And as soon as something doesn’t work as expected, go and stick to the naming guide.
You will not get any support if you continue to use unsupported naming schemas. Because they are, err, unsupported.
Well I got great support here this time and I appreciate it. My libraries have been running fine for several years, some with Season XX folders and some without. And if the NEW library management updates suddenly required this layer of folder at all times then I should have been notified during the upgrade process. But your threat is noted. Thanks so much for understanding.
I’m unable to find this show on my library, I even have it 2 times one for imdb (6 episodes) and the other with TVDB (3 episodes); but still after naming update is not show on my library, any ideas?
Plex dance it. and The format should be The Lost Room (2006) {tvdb-79637}\Season 01\The Lost Room S01E01 The Key.mkv IMDB ids only work for movies. including them in the TV library is confusing. Plex may have also combined them so look for duplicates.
