Plex Server Crashing Randomly

Yes a new 1.28.0 beta has just been released with hotfix for the compiler issue

release 1.28.0.5999

Yeah i am experiencing lot of crashing lately. Few minutes ago plex crashed while updating the entire library. It also crashed doing auto backup and sonic audio scans.

Was nearing 48 hours since the last deadlock, but it got me again. For me, there seems to be a pattern of this happening in the evening. A lot of times, I’ve only had 1 or 2 streams ongoing when the deadlock happened, so I don’t think it’s tied to my server’s traffic, but every single one of my crashes has happened between 8 PM and midnight Central time. Not sure if that helps any, but there seems to be a pattern.

Would this error message cause a crash? My server went down about 7 hours ago and I found this in the logs

Good day ! Could you explain me what steps you followed to go back with an old version? I tried to do the same but got an error in my libs

Error doing downgrade

I updated to the 1.28.0.5999 beta last night. I’d been crashing about once a day on average. The longest I’d gone without a crash since they started was about 48 hours, so it’s too soon to tell if it helped yet, but so far so good. I will post again if I have another crash, so as long as you don’t see another post from me, you can assume that I haven’t had a crash since updating.

Updated to 1.28.0.5999 this morning after a deadlock (was on 1.27.x.xxxx) - will update if I continue to have deadlocks.

No. Anyway this is for a PlexScriptHost process and not the Plex Media Server

Please update to the latest version 1.28.0.5999 which was released as beta last Friday and is now on public release. If you get any crashes, please ensure you run with debug logging not disabled on the server and capture the server logs zip after a crash and attach in a post here

Thanks

I’m having the same problem, random crashes of the Plex server while streaming. When I try to open Plex to see whats going on the srever will not open even though it appears to be running. All I can do is exit the app and restart it again, then it will work fine until the next crash which will be in a few days usually. I’m not posting my logs because I see that several hundred subscribers already have. Seems no one at Plax cares anyway.

The fix was released with 1.28.0.5999. If it’s not fixed for you then you actually do need to post new logs.

I updated a few nights ago, and hadn’t had any deadlocks since, but I just had one. Newest logs:
Plex Tuner Service.1.log (2.6 KB)
Plex Transcoder Statistics.1.log (273.4 KB)
Plex Media Server.1.log (4.5 MB)
Plex Transcoder Statistics.log (275.2 KB)

Appears to be related to transcoding Fargo Season 1 Episode 10

Is the file big ? Could you make it available to me together with any sideline srt’s if any ? If you can zip and upload to dropbox/google etc and send me a link by Private message - will see if it can be reproduced.

Follow up to my earlier response - what is the J Drive / is it just a drive or drive pool or some external storage ?

Might be to do with the time it is taking to access files on the J Drive

@jayhawk618

Might also need a process dump and treat it as a deadlock problem - requests were stacking up but could either be because the access to the J Drive files was slow or there is some lock being held

So please let me know what the J Drive is - ah the actual media is on the F Drive ! So for both drives - F & J - what are they ? Local HDD / SDD / External / Network?

And for deadlocks diagnostics see this post posted earlier in this thread

Just a side note, I was crashing daily prior to the upgrade and I’ve had none since.

I went to the 64 bit version after multiple lockups per day, it worked for about 8 days then back to constant lockups every 10 minutes or so.
Uninstalled and installed again, ran for 12 hours then back to locking up, uninstalled and went to 32 bit .5999 release, worked for 12 hours or so and then back to locking up.
This is getting tiring.

I have been getting crashes on my Win10 machine for months. Sometimes it runs for days without issue, sometimes twice in one day. I have no proxy installed.
Plex Media Scanner Analysis.1.log (11.7 KB)
Plex Crash Uploader.log (720 Bytes)
Plex DLNA Server.log (19.6 KB)

netstat_2022-Aug-05.txt (27.5 KB)

I’ve included the Netstat output. And here are the Plex Crash Uploader logs. Are there others that are needed to look at?

Plex Crash Uploader.2.log (630 Bytes)
Plex Crash Uploader.3.log (627 Bytes)
Plex Crash Uploader.4.log (626 Bytes)
Plex Crash Uploader.1.log (626 Bytes)
Plex Media Scanner Analysis.log (11.7 KB)
Plex Media Scanner Deep Analysis.log (9.2 KB)
Plex Media Scanner Matcher.log (19.2 KB)
Plex Media Scanner.log (369.2 KB)
Plex Media Server.log (1.2 MB)
Plex Transcoder Statistics.log (1.2 KB)

If this continues to be the case; need connections text file, 32 bit task manager dump file, and server logs to try to pin point the issue. I have been running the latest 32 bit public release since 8/1 and have not had issues yet. :crossed_fingers:

Mine was consistently deadlocking at about the 7 day mark on the previous build. I figure if the current version has the same problem, it will fail about the same time frame.

I will continue to provide diagnostics IF the problem occurs again. I encourage anyone else to do the same.
