After installing the SHIELD experience update 7.1, my plex server resets to default after a restart of the SHIELD device. I know this might have nothing to do with plex, but rather with the SHIELD 7.1 update. Do any of you guys experience the same problem? And is there a workaround/solution? I don’t feel like setting up a new server every time i restart the device.
My NAS connection does not work anymore after 7.1 update, not possible anymore to access my media files.
Nothing to do with Plex but shield TV is promoted as the ideal Plex server & player solution, it is not anymore if you have a NAS it seems
Mine spung into life again a couple of hours ago too. I didn’t restart. It was still failing to see my server earlier but then it appeared again later on when I tried again.
So it appears to be some temporary interruption, maybe due to Android still upgrading something in the background after the Experience update? My server came back as well after a few hours. So don’t fall in despair, but be patient!
Mine is gone after each reboot, or is renamed to “localhost” and is not reachable from other devices than the Shield itself.
Also I can’t add any media, because Plex tells me that the folders are empty, even tough VLC can find every video file…
My USB that was used as expanded storage in 16gb shield took a nosedive after plugging in Samsung smartthings link. Lost my server and had to do a reset. Now I’m having the same problem, I guess I’ll let it sit for a couple days and see if it works out somehow
Mine has been doing the same for over a week. Media also on USB hard drive. Every restart, it starts anew thinking it’s on a first run, constantly asking me to link to my account, sometimes creating new servers that can’t be started. In fact all the problems began with the server refusing to start. I don’t have enough time to spend on this kind of voodoo. PMS on Shield desperately needs an easy backup, reset and restore option because when things get screwed up there is very little the user can do while Plex demands you jump through its hoops.
agreed. apparently you can backup with rooting the device, something I’m not currently inclined to do. My server seems to be running correctly now, however, so thumbs crossed
I too lost my PMS server when I did a restart. Android OS says the PMS is running, but cannot access it, however I have a localhost server running without any local (USB HD) content. Waited hours, did multiple reboots and it does not recover. Any suggestions? Can I uninstall PMS and re-install? If so, how? Really expected that this would “just work”. FYI, I am a Plex Pass subscriber.
Same story here… seems like there are many ways to cause Plex Server to fail and create another instance w/o warning and no clear (if any) way to get the previous config back and running without re-doing the config by hand again.
Plex admins/devs, I hope you’re trying to figure out what’s broken here because it’s really a poor situation for those of us who bought these devices intending to use them as media servers to be left in a state like this.
In my situation, the easiest way to cause breakage is to change the location of the PMS database and reboot sometime later… that’s been a reliable way to cause this sort of breakage on my system at least.
I tried several things yesterday : wiping cache, wiping data, change where the PMS data was stored, whole factory reset of the shield and nothing worked… Each time I restarted the shield plex asked me to perform a new installation of the server…
And then I tried another thing : I wiped cache and data from plex and pms, restarted the shield, then in Google play I uninstalled the update for PMS, I blocked the auto update feature from play store and restarted the shield. Then I performed a new pms install of my database without updating plex. And… For the moment after 3 restart of shield nothing dissapeared!
Finger crossed for the moment. I’m stuck with an old version of PMS but it seems to be working.
Someone could test this and make some feedback if it works?
As I reported before - I was having these issues, reproducibly, where the plex server wouldn’t come back after a restart… but I think something in the latest PMS update ( 1.14.1.5488, which came out 2 or 3 days ago) might have fixed this for me.
I’ve now rebooted twice and had the server come back online without needing any manual intervention/reload of any backups or any such thing.
So maybe there was a fix somewhere in the latest PMS update that’s changed the boot time behavior to wait until the external USB. Would be nice for the update release notes to include a mention of this, though I don’t see any.
Shield kept telling me I was out if space, so I added a brand new 32G Usb drive, in addition to my 4TB hard drive. I set the 32G drive to extended storage and moved my Plex databases to it.
One reboot later, localhost is my only option with all my settings gone. This is at least my fourth or fifth ride on this merry-go-round…
PLEX, we really need a better option here. This is a shame it’s pretty unusable like this. Stability is #1 - my wife and family can’t adopt anything this unreliable…
Which version of Shield Experience (OS) are you running?

I am running the latest version of Shield Experience (7.2.2) and PLEX. Even if I wasn’t running the latest versions, this really isn’t acceptable behavior of the app, losing everything every reboot is not working for me.
I ended up doing a factory reset tonight on the shield and it still took me multiple tries to get the server to stick. What I’m seeming to find is it ‘loses’ the setting anytime I put the PLEX data somewhere besides internal storage. Even an adopted USB Drive gave me issues. I feel like there is still one other thing going on there too, but I haven’t figured it out yet.
