Recently reinstalled my server from scratch (full windows reset). When I reinstalled Plex Server running as a service everything seemed fine, but on a regular basis, I cannot access the server from my two Nvidea Shield TV devices. The issue is limited to the Shield devices as I can still access the server from my two Samsung TVs; my iOS devices and my windows devices. I tried factory resetting a Shield TV in case it was a VPN issue but no luck. The only thing that seems to temporarily solve the issue is to restart the Plex Server Service. Has anyone seen anything like this and got recommendations on how to resolve it?
Server Version#: 1.25.1.5286
Player Version#: 8.27.1
Try and see if the shields are listed in Authorised Devices under the plex server settings. If they are delete them and then try and login again with your shield. It might help.
Thanks for the response. I thought it worked initially, then all of a sudden the shield could not connect again. It is very odd, I was watching a movie, but left to go and sort out something for my children, then when I came back the shield had turned off/standby and when I woke it the shield could not connect. My other shield device also could not connect, but my ios devices, windows devices and samsung TV’s all connect fine.
So I restarted the shield service and normal service resumed. Why is this only affecting shield devices do you think?
I’ve never experienced this but as other devices are okay I’m wondering if its something funky with your network with the shield when it wakes up. Maybe its slow to reconnect and the plex app is then just reporting no connection.
it would be weird to be a network issue, everything is connected via wired lan, and the network has not changed… the only thing that changed was reinstalling my windows machine - the shields were all working find before that. Maybe it is a weird windows firewall thing? Any thoughts?
Agreed if its connected via wired cables, that’s exactly how I have my setup but said I’d mention it in case it was over wifi.
I’ll be honest I’m flush out of ideas. I was fairly confident that removing and connecting the devices again via the authorised devices would fix it as I’d seen stuff not unfamiliar to what you describe in the past but as that did not fix it for you I’m not sure.
Its always possible windows could be a factor considering the re-installation but I’m more of a Linux head myself and don’t deal with windows unless I’m forced to Sorry.
Lets see is someone else from the plex community jumps on the thread to add any comment!
