I didn’t set up port forwarding originally, I didn’t turn it on until after it just stopped working one day. Everything was ok one night I went to bed, and the next day it didn’t work and I saw that I should try that but couldn’t understand it
Then this seems like an issue with your plex server, local to your network, and not a remote connectivity issue.
It says that remote access isn’t working though so why wouldn’t that be the issue? And if so how do I fix that then
Hi again, this could be as simple as restarting your router. Have you done so already.
I have. Same for the computer. Those unfortunately didn’t work
As I previously said, ISPs can without warning use CG-NAT which blocks your ports, ring your ISP and enquire if your connection is using CG-NAT if so request to opt out.
To prove my point…
Add the port 32400 and if it is blocked you need some help from your ISP or Port forward that port to open it for remote
You haven’t really answered some vital questions. Has this server worked to stream media to you remotely when you are out of the house on either cellular or another network? You keep mentioning the remote access status page within the plex server settings as showing not reachable. That is to be expected if you didn’t properly setup port forwarding. You mentioned that you only setup port forwarding when it “stopped working after you went to bed”. You also mention that it was never setup before, and that you dont know how to login to your routers admin page. What are the symptoms you’re seeing other than the remote access status page in plex server settings?
Things that would help.
Post the make and model of your router and we can look at the manual and tell you how.
Go to canyouseeme.org and check if port 32400 is open.
We can then tell you how to open or point where it is in the manual. Just because it worked before doesn’t mean it’s going to magically fix itself. It could have been turned on by upnp before and after a windows update turned off. Your ISP could have turned on cgnat. A lot of things could have happened.
Thank you. It’s an ATNT router, looks like a company called Arris produced it and it’s model number is BGW210
Also I checked that site and it doesn’t work with 32400
“ could not see your service on”
“Reason:connection timed out”
I searched and found these instructions on how to setup port forwarding for your router.
Follow those instructions to open up port 32400, then try the remote access tab on your Plex Server again.
Thank you I’ll try this. I really appreciate all this help and the patience
Good luck, I also found a video that shows the steps and might help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHFxa460VgI
Alright I figured out port forwarding but I have my pc hooked up to a wifi extender through Ethernet. Do you happen to know how to connect it that way?
Sorry, I’m not understanding or I’m a bit lost. Remote access is used for accessing your Plex Server outside of your network. It shouldn’t matter if you are using a wifi extender or not, as long as your server is hooked up (doesn’t have to be a physical connection) and on your LAN (local access network or home network.)
Was that your intent or are you having other connection issues?
Turning on remote access allows you to access your Plex server outside of your house. Example 1: you are using your cell phone in a store parking lot, you open Plex and start watching a show on your server.
Example 2: You use a laptop or tablet hooked up to wifi at your work place to watch something on your server.
If that is your intent, does the remote access tab of the Plex Server now say “Fully Accessible Outside of your Network” like the screenshot attached, or do you still have issues?
You’re fine i appreciate your patience with me. The WiFi extender technically is a separate wifi network so the PC wasn’t showing up, unless the name is messed up on the ATNT thing to assign it. Also it is still red and not available. It used to work in both of those examples you gave but it does not anymore for whatever reason
