The Plex app recently updated on my Android TV, to the version with the new logo. The problem is that now the shows from my Plex server do not show up anywhere in the main interface (Home, TV Shows, Movies, etc.) – it is just all Plex shows.
Except, the server is still accessible from the More menu, so it isn’t like it isn’t connecting to the server at all.
Here’s what’s weird: If I use the option to reset the main interface, removing all customizations (of which I have none), the interface works again as expected: the next episode to watch from my server is at the top of the Home list, followed by the recently added shows, and so on. Just like it was before the upgrade.
But! that only lasts temporarily. The next day it is back to the same problem again.
How do I get the Plex app to show the shows from my server on the Home screen again?
The first time you used the app, you would have been shown a dialog to select a server and libraries to include on the sidebar. That would have been the same as manually pinning them.
Hello @mschmitt , I am experiencing exactly the same problem on my Android TV devices, both on my Sony TV, and on my other Philips 55OLED873 TV. I haven’t looked yet if the problem also occurs in my Xiaomi Mi Box 3 from 2016, and in Xiaomi Mi Box S from 2018. The difference is that on the Philips 55OLED873 TV all my personal libraries disappear in the profile or user The main one is the server administrator, but in the other two users or profiles of my girlfriend and my friend, the personal libraries do not disappear. On the contrary, it happens in the other Sony television that in my user or server administrator profile the libraries do not disappear, but they do disappear in the profile or user of my girlfriend, or that of my friend. Since I play most of the time on my 55OLED873 TV, I’m going to try creating a new user or profile on the server to see if the personal libraries don’t disappear from that profile. Also another alternative that I’m thinking of is to uninstall the latest version of the Plex app on all my Android TV devices, and download an older version from the APKMIRROR store, install the old version where the error disappearing libraries did not occur yet and Finally, disable the automatic updates of the “Play Store” app, so that the Plex app does not update again without my consent, waiting until this error or problem is solved. The annoying and cumbersome thing is that you have to manually update the other apps installed on my devices, in short, on my 55OLED873 TV I already have automatic updates disabled in “Play Store” due to another problem with the Prime Video app that has to remain in that old version for HDR quality playback to work.
The problem is that I don’t remember which version of the old Plex app I have to go back to…
I have the same issue on my Sony Bravia (Android) TV. It seems the account being used gets all the Sidebar options unpinned. If you pin them back (like Movies, TV Shows etc) they all appear and so does the option to resume watching stuff.
Next day they pinned options have gone again.
Its very frustrating having to re pin them each day, and teach the kids how to do it.
Any ideas ? I’ve tried logout, uninstalled, clear caches on TV, reinstall and still it does the same thing.
Hello @DoobleBerry y @mschmitt ; so far it’s been two days since I completely uninstalled the latest version of the Plex app on my Philips 55OLED873 Android TV, and I’ve installed the older version of the Plex app with the Plex version number v9.1.0.32210_-armv7a (2022-04-25). And it’s been two days and so far I haven’t had the problem of my personal libraries disappearing, I just turned my TV back on and the libraries are still pinned and visible in the left sidebar. Also yesterday I did the same thing last night on my other Sony Bravia TV with Android TV and it’s been more than 15 hours with the TV turned off, I just turned on my Sony Bravia and also all the libraries are still visible and pinned in the left sidebar. So installing the old version 9.1.0.32210_-armv7a from April 25, 2022 is a temporary solution to the problem, while we wait for the PLEX developers to fix this serious bug and problem. I guess almost certainly your TV is also ARMv7a processor architecture. They just have to uninstall the latest version of the Plex app, then download the APK file of the old version 9.1.0.32210, and install it on their televisions and Android TV devices. Finally, it is very important to disable automatic updates in the Play Store, and the rest of the applications update them manually in the Play Store every time they turn on their TV.
Now I get why resetting to remove customizations works. The customization isn’t what’s pinned. It is what is unpinned from the sidebar. So when you reset, it un-unpins all sources, so they’re all back on the sidebar, with no More menu at all. That is, until the bug causes the Plex server to be unpinned, which moves it back to the More menu.
Dear support @anon18523487 , for me the error and serious problem is still not solved and it still persists, because just two days ago on my Xiaomi Mi Box device all my personal libraries disappeared from the left sidebar. In order to be testing each new update and latest version of the Android client app, I did not go back to version 9.1.0.32210 on my Xiaomi Mi Box device in order to test each new update with a version and the solution the problem has never come up so far arrives, not even in the version you mention 9.3.0.
For this reason, I will continue to wait with great anxiety, that in the future the true solution to this problem that causes me much inconvenience will arrive. Greeting.
Did the libraries get removed again after installing 9.3.0? The fix is to prevent them from getting removed. If they were already removed due to an earlier version, this doesn’t put them back. We cannot undo the libraries being unpinned, just prevent that from happening again.
Yes @anon18523487 , if the disappearance of the libraries still happens with version 9.3.0. Because I already have the habit of every day when I turn on my devices with Android TV, the first thing is to go to the “Play Store” and update the apps that have new updates pending, so it was probably already in version 9.3.0. Apart from that with the tests in the Plex client app, every time that all the libraries disappear, I enter the Android configuration, then in the apps section, and in the Plex client app I press the button to delete all application data , whereupon the Plex client is completely restored from scratch and the libraries are temporarily visible again until the next time they disappear again.
I suggest you always check well in each new version of the updates, if the problems and bugs are really already resolved, or not really resolved. Greeting.
We did check 9.3.0 and it is fixed in our tests. If you are still seeing this problem, please send me the logs after the next time you see things disappear before you clear the app data.
