Plex server on TrueNAS not pulling correct metadata for recorded shows

Windows Server Version# 1.32.4.7195 - running on Windows 11 desktop
TrueNAS Server Version#: 1.32.5.7210 - running on TrueNAS Jail (not as a plugin or VM)

Hello everyone,

I’m running Plex Media Server on two machines, my Windows 11 desktop and my TrueNAS server. TrueNAS doesnt support my TV Tuner so Im using Plex on my Windows desktop to schedule and record live TV. What I want to do on regular intervals is copy the recordings from my desktop into the TV Shows folder on TrueNAS for consumption by Plex on the server.

Recorded shows on my Windows machine work fine, and Plex organizes them correctly. It determines the correct show, episode names and graphics. When looking at the shows in the browser everything looks great. The files are stored in the TV Shows/Showname/Season structure with filenames organized like this: ShowName - SxxExx - EpisodeName

When I copy the files to the TrueNAS server (keeping folder and filename structures intact) the files no longer resolve to the right metadata. Its like the Plex server on the NAS isnt even trying to assign metadata. No show name, no episode names, no graphics. Makes it near impossible to find the episode I want to watch. The files are there an play properly to clients, there is just no metadata.

Ive gone through the settings on both servers and they appear the same. The only thing I can think of is that Plex needs access to some folder to manage metadata that it doesnt have in my setup. But the metadata should be right there in the jail, so I’m not sure I’m on the right track.

Anyone have any idea what might be happening? Why is Plex on TrueNAS not populating my metadata?

Thanks!
