Plex Server Playback fails Samsung Tizen

Hello all,

My Plex setup is great, when it works… It works fine on all my devices except for the native app on my Samsung ‘smart’ TV. I’ve always had issues with playback involving subtitles but now it won’t do playback period. I’ve experimented with setting subtitle burn to always, automatic, and never - all give the same error ‘Playback Failed’.

Some details.

Using Plex for Samsung Client Version 5.69.1 Platform Version 3

Multiple extra transcodes for no apparent reason (just poking through menu items). Just selecting the initial show poster for ‘continue’ information generates a transcode on my server. Then when it finally loads enough to select an item to play, I do, and it generates yet another transcode…

I’ve attached the server logs. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Just trying to make my PMS server run on a headless Mac mini but I need playback somewhere useful for that to happen.

Update: I discovered some articles going over required/preferred secure connections. I set it up to be preferred secure in the server and always prefer insecure on the TV. That allowed me to play some things again. But…

I don’t have a clue why this would happen but while playing one show (nothing special about it that I could tell) it had a good 20 sec or so hiccup near the middle of a 42 min episode.

Can anyone help explain all these oddities with Samsung? I would just like all my players to ‘play’ my media…
