Plex server plays remote if not hardwired to same router of player

Server Version#: 1.13.8.5395
Player Version#: Plex for Vizio 3.13.13

I’ve had this issue for a couple of years now. Before, when I had my TV on the wifi network, it would always see the Win10 Plex server as being remote rather than on LAN, even though the server was hardwired into the same wireless router.

I’ve since bought a new house and took the time to install Cat5e connectors in all the rooms. When I have my Vizio TV and the Plex server hardwired into the same router, the content is played locally over LAN, but the second I introduce a switch or access point into the chain, it changes to remote.

I currently have the TV hardwired into the primary router (192.168.1.1), a second router set up as a switch/access point connected to that router (192.168.1.2) and the Plex server connected to that switch (192.168.1.4). NAT filtering and QoS is disabled on the secondary router since it’s functioning as an access point, both are on the 255.255.255.0 subnet, and the parent router is handling all DNS queries.

For the life of me I can’t figure out why the player refuses to use LAN playback unless the server is hardwired into the same physical router/switch. Any suggestions or folks with similar experiences?

Thanks!

In the Plex app on your Vizio there should be a setting to tell it where your server is if it can’t find in on your local network. Settings>Manual Servers. then enter the IP address of your server computer
