Plex Server shows as Offline on Android App or Apple TV

When trying to use the Android and Apple TV apps to stream movies and shows from my Plex server, my server is showing up as offline. When I try to use my Samsung TV using the native app, or to connect from a browser, it shows the server as connected, and has no issues playing media from it, so the server isn’t offline. In the case of the phone app, I’ve verified that the phone will access and play media from the server in a browser while on the exact same network (network is flat, no VLANs).

Login attempts on the Android app and Apple TV both show up on my server as authorised devices, even though the devices consider it offline. I’ve tried signing out and back in, restarting the devices, uninstalling the apps and re-installing, restarting the server, all kinds of things, but haven’t been able to get it to operate correctly.

Any assistance would be appreciated, and I’m happy to provide any information required to assist with troubleshooting.

Your server’s certificate was stuck.

I reset it.

Restart the server , wait about 30 seconds, then restart the player apps.

Is that something that I’m able to do on my end if this ever happens again in the future, or is it something I have to reach out to get resolved?

It’s unfortunately something we need to do on our end (plex.tv internal).

Operations recently made a change. It seems that, for some folks (like you), automatic certificate regeneration doesn’t happen.

After we reset the certificate, it will all function normally again from this point forward.

Can you check if my certificate is stuck. I am having the same issues not working for some apps.

Your certificate is normal.

If you have ‘429’ errors in your logs

stop PMS for 15-30 minutes
restart it
wait 30 seconds
force restart your apps

I hav a smiliar problem. Sinc aprox. 1 week I can‘t access my Plex Server via my Apple TV. Phone an PC is working just fine. Could you please check my certificate? Thank you.

Hi there, the plex app on the android/samsung tv, since the last update, removed the ability to access to plex server (local). Do you know why ?
Also, just before this issue, I had another issue which was having the format of the movie in small letter box (HD format on 95” screen !!), instead of the entire screen in 4K as it was supposed to. After looking at the origin of the issue, I found out that, despite having cat7 cables and fiber optics connection (2 Gbit/s), the speed in Plex (only) was not enough to read the movies in original format (4k). Yet It worked before the new release perfectly. Did you have similar issues in your knowledge base ?
