Plex Server stopped working on QNAP QTS

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.18.6.2368-97add474d-x86_64
QNAP/QTS 4.3.4

After it upgraded itself to 1.18.6… it stopped working. Does not see server. Tried to revert o 1.17… does not work. I paid Plex Pass 3 years ago (it’s supposed to work like, forever!?), and this is like 3rd upgrade that makes problem. So far, uninstall/install worked, but this time nothing works.

Plex Support, help!

Make that Community, since Plex Pass has absolutely nothing to do with support!

When said, Community is here, but sadly can’t help, without logs in debug mode, so please upload those, in a zip

Might also avoid updating using a beta release.

I did not update it. It just stopped. Then installed it again (1.18), then tried to revert back (1.17). Nothing works.

Here is log. Plex_log.zip (29.0 KB)

First of all, you have a bad network configuration:

Feb 08, 2020 18:46:45.607 [0x7fe77e243740] DEBUG - * 2 eth0 (192.168.1.205) (loopback: 0)
Feb 08, 2020 18:46:45.607 [0x7fe77e243740] DEBUG - * 3 eth1 (192.168.1.206) (loopback: 0)

Do NOT have two interfaces on the same IP Net, unless you have a managed switch in front of it, and configured correctly!

You browsed towards PMS via QNAP Cloud

Feb 08, 2020 18:46:48.739 [0x7fe767a23700] DEBUG - Request came in with unrecognized domain / IP 'schnas.myqnapcloud.com' in header Host; treating as non-local

Instead, browse directly towards http://192.168.1.205:32400/web in order to reclaim your PMS

Thanks a lot for taking the time to check! Really appreciated. In the meantime, I figured out the same, accessed through IP address and everything worked. However, I do not understand why that happened. It simply stopped working, and earlier I was accessing it through cloud address.

Out of curiosity - why is it not good to have both interfaces on the same subnet?

Plex.tv had an issue a few days ago, causing some tokens to be re-issued…

In order for a PMS to pick it up, it had to be re-claimed

After it been claimed again, I assume cloud address will work again?

That’s the way TCP works, and will cause errors sooner or later if you continue to do so.

See: Qnap faq.....read me first! Q21 for more info

Thanks. Yes, cloud address works now.

Well, I am really disappointed with all this. This is like 3rd time in a year Plex is causing trouble for neglected compatibility issues etc. I never know will it work or not. And, why am I supposed to be a network expert to make it work? Ugh. The QNAP is not much better. Every once in a while something just stops working. But, they have at least very good support that solves the issues. With Plex, I was not able to reach any support.

All I can say here is that for me, I use PMS on QNAP on a daily basis, and it’s working fine most of the time, like every other SW.

And I do NOT recommend to access PMS via QNAP Cloud solution
I recommend using https://app.plex.tv since that’s the official one from Plex

And when/if having issues, revert to local IP address

Well, I get the QNAP cloud address if I click Plex on QNAP interface. Anyway, it works now. We will see for how long.

…and now this ■■■■ stopped working again. Just like that. Is there any alternative to Plex?

Hardly the place to ask such a Q

And thought you knew by now, that logs is the key to support!

Thank you for your quick response. I know logs are needed, and you guys are really nice.

But, I am really getting tired of this. I need simple set up and not spend days every once in a while in setting it up again, editing configuration files etc. Every update either on QNAP or Plex side - everything stops working. Every upgrade of TV - everything stops working. Each time my dog barks too close to server - everything stops working. I mean, each time I fixed it (this time reset/reinstall worked), but I really do not have time for that. And I never know will it work when I sit with my family to watch the movie. This is not some sort of beta testing toy - I paid for service I am not getting.

I will be very happy to find the alternative.

Anyway, thank you for your attention.

No you didn’t!

Plex Pass means early access to features and betas among other things

I have had a similar experience the other day, with the plex.tv hiccup reported above. I had to restart my QNAP to get PMS to work again. Simply stopping and starting did not work. It was working fine on my Windows 10 PMS. No problems - until today.

Today, at about 12:30 pm, the QNAP PMS was not reachable. It was working fine last night when I went to bed. I stopped PMS, restarted it, and it was reachable again. Windows 10 PMS was working fine. And it was fine the rest of the afternoon - until about 5:30 tonight.

So I stopped and then restarted PMS and it was reachable again. 30 minutes later, again, it was not reachable. Stopped and restarted PMS, and it was working again.

Very strange, and Windows 10 PMS was not affected.

When the last 2 PMS issues happened, I did add 2 IP addresses to block in QNAP security, since someone was looking for openings into my NAS (1 person from France, and 1 from Germany). Perhaps it was related, but I am not sure why I had the issue earlier in the day.
