I have several hard drives set up on my computer that are listed in my Plex Server. One of these drives has 34 different folders in it. After the last Plex update, there are only 29 folders listed. There is nothing that I can do to make it pick up the missing folders. If I search for one of the missing folders via the Plex app on my Roku box, it does find it but it still will not play it. What am I missing?
Maybe start by sharing some more details
Anything specific about those folders, their names / structure?
Anything specific about the media in those folders?
Ar they playing in other clients?
Sorry about that. So first I need to say that I don’t use the Plex naming convention. I use what works for me but that doesn’t have anything to do with it unless that is something that has changed in newer versions because until the last two updates, it read every folder on the drive.
There is nothing at all different from the missing folders as compared to the ones that it does read. All of the files are in .avi format for all folders on the drive, both in the folders it does see and those that it does not. They are playing file if I set them up via the Mezzmo media server or if I use VLC to play them.
One of the drives, for example, is labeled TV Shows M to O
One of the missing folders used to be name MSW but when it stopped reading that folder, I renamed it to Murder She Wrote. Same behavior. The files inside that folder are names
msw11.avi (contains the first 4 episodes of season one)
msw12.avi (contains the second 4 episodes of season one)
and so on
The current-generation Plex scanners/agents – especially the Plex TV Series – are more strict. While they still cover some undocumented scenarios, that won’t work for others. So it is very likely this new behavior is linked to your non-compliant naming.
