Plex Server With Remote Access Ok, Wouldn't Play Some Videos

Hi there,

Just got a plexpass to test and a strange behavior started.

Locally, everything is fine. But remotely, most video content won’t play at all, although I have an all green page in remote access (some videos do play, transcoding from 1080p h.264 do SD).

For the ones that fail, it keeps loading eternally, no error messages on the client side.

PMS is configured with an upload speed of 80Mbps, Remote stream bitrate limit is set to 20Mbps.

Audio files play fine.

Something got my attention in the logs:

Apr 27, 2021 06:19:47.667 [7236] DEBUG - [Transcode] Streaming Resource: Estimated bandwidth for abeb9ea3a154c896-com-plexapp-android to be 3848kbps over 19.73s
Apr 27, 2021 06:19:49.683 [13772] DEBUG - [Transcode] Streaming Resource: Estimated bandwidth for abeb9ea3a154c896-com-plexapp-android to be 0kbps over 20.00s

Before plexpass, everything was working fine.

From those logs, my suspicion is that once PMS thinks the available bandwidth is 0kbps, it won’t stream. I already set PMS to no limit, same results.

The test was done with an android cellphone. In the local network, the same device / plex client is able to stream.

I already tried disabling hardware transcoding, upload limits, same results.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Logs attached.

Thanks in advance!

Have you figured out the issue? I’m having the same issue as soon as I signed up for the Plexpass. I thought it was something wrong with my hardware. Makes me feel better I don’t need to buy an entire new system since it’s happening to others when purchasing the plex pass. Everything was working smoothly for months with no issues remotely or in network. As soon as I purchased the Plexpass things started to not work when going remote. I checked all my settings too and they match what you said yours were at.

Unfortunately no solution so far. It really seems that same thing around here.

Had some development.

I thought that the client was frozen, but I opened the config and reduced quality / stream to 480p (1.5Mbps) manually and hit play. It worked.

Speedtest reports I have a 90 Mbps upload so it does not make any sense. It seems to be a bug related to the detection of the available bandwidth.
