Plex showing a different date than how file is named ( Custom date-based TV Show)

I am having a problem with the naming scheme of a Twitch streamer I am archiving on my server. This series is not something that would be scraped with TVDB or TheMovieDatabase.

I originally had this series inside my TV Shows folder, and moved them out of there while I was doing The Plex Dance to see if that would fix the problem. I moved them out of there and now have them inside a “Test” library with TV Shows selected as the library format and “Personal Media Shows” set as the agent.

I have tried bulk renaming the files using Bulk Rename Utility, based on what it says in this support article about date-based shows.

Here’s how I currently have one of the seasons named:

Here is what Plex for Windows is showing for one of the episodes:

And here is what the “media info” pane is showing for the file path:

As you can see, the date is wrong inside the player versus what the media info is showing.

I am not sure how to fix this at this point since I feel I have exhausted all my steps. I am also trying to avoid putting these files into the “Other Videos” area since I have poster and background art for this series that I would like to use.

If there is anything else that is needed to troubleshoot this, please let me know.

I’ve never done what you’re trying to do, but since they have better support for MP4, try changing the container of one of your files to MP4, add that date in the metadata and tell Plex to Prefer embedded metadata.

I have since discovered that my problem possibly relates to the current bugs with the “originally available date” and not being able to change it manually. This only started happening when I upgraded to 1.26 on the NVIDIA Shield and also on a backup Synology server. I don’t believe this has anything to do with the containers of the files because before the update, this worked perfectly and the scanners were able to correctly match the date and put them in order of the airing date of the stream. But I also cannot change the date manually since it will put either the 1969 date or 1970.
