Plex showing disc name instead of episode title?

I’ve been ripping my BluRays of Battlestar Galactica, but Plex won’t display the episode names. The files are in /Shows/Battlestar Galactica/Season 1 and their names are:

‘Battlestar Galactica - s01e01 - 33.mp4’
‘Battlestar Galactica - s01e02 - Water.mp4’
‘Battlestar Galactica - s01e03 - Bastille Day.mp4’
‘Battlestar Galactica - s01e04 - Act of Contrition.mp4’
“Battlestar Galactica - s01e05 - You Can’t Go Home Again.mp4”
‘Battlestar Galactica - s01e06 - Litmus.mp4’
‘Battlestar Galactica - s01e07 - Six Degrees of Separation.mp4’
‘Battlestar Galactica - s01e08 - Flesh and Bone.mp4’
‘Battlestar Galactica - s01e09 - Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down.mp4’
‘Battlestar Galactica - s01e10 - The Hand of God.mp4’
‘Battlestar Galactica - s01e11 - Colonial Day.mp4’
“Battlestar Galactica - s01e12 - Kobol’s Last Gleaming, Part 1.mp4”
“Battlestar Galactica - s01e13 - Kobol’s Last Gleaming, Part 2.mp4”

The show was picked up fine, but the episodes are shown as “Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 (Disc 2)” repeated for all 5 episodes on Disc 2. Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 (Disc 3)" repeated for the 5 episodes on Disc 3. and Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 (Disc 4)" for the 4 episodes on Disc 4.

Technically that information is correct, but I didn’t put it in and it certainly doesn’t help when browsing my collection.

I tried moving the Battlestar Galactica folder to another location, scanning, emptying trash, moving the folder back, and scanning again. No luck.

Any ideas?

That is inside your files, in their ‘Title’ meta tag.
It is usually put there by your ripper/converter software.

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Afterwards, Refresh Metadata of the whole show.

Side note: you rather want to use roman numerals, if the number is the last character before the filename extension. i.e.

Battlestar Galactica - s01e12 - Kobol’s Last Gleaming, Part I.mp4
Battlestar Galactica - s01e13 - Kobol’s Last Gleaming, Part II.mp4
