Yes, very interested when this is going to be fixed. I am hoping they will added it to this latest build and be in the public release. As someone said, I am just going through and adding a 02 at the end instead of 20XX-01-01 and that fixes it. I am in there every day doing this so it might not be great for some but at least fixes the issue (visually) for me.
Yeah me too. I canât update past 1.25.9.5721 until this bug is fixed
@Volts @OttoKerner @drzoidberg33
This morning as a test, after taking a backup of my whole installation, I disabled âPrefer Local Metadataâ and refreshed the metadata of my whole music library. I then updated to the latest stable release.
The bug is still there even with âPrefer Local Metadataâ disabled. After refreshing metadata, all albums with an âOriginally Availableâ date of âXXXX-01-01â had the displayed date below the album showing the wrong year. And itâs true whether the âOriginally Availableâ field was locked or unlocked.
So the theory that this issue is only affecting libraries with âPrefer Local Metadataâ enabled is false. At least for this particular bug in music libraries.
I hope this information can help somewhat. This bug is very bad.
So back to 1.25.9.5721 I goâŠ
+1 to the âextremely annoyedâ list. I canât believe this is still an issue after almost two months. Please fix this!
@OttoKerner Any updates? Iâm getting annoyed that this doesnât seem to have a priority for fixing.
Just wanted to give a +1 to this issue as well. It has been affecting my PMS music server since the initial bugged update. Really hoping this gets fixed soon. Have we got any confirmation from the devs that they are even aware of this issue?
Iâm currently testing PMS version 1.27.1 as an alpha.
In its release notes it specifically mentions this bug as fixed.
Thanks for the update. Here is my update.
I finally got around to upgrading to version 1.27.0.5849. When I perform a ârefresh metadaâ for an album or an artist, all the albums âOriginally Availableâ tags get updated to the full release date for the album.
For example, the album âYou Want It Darkerâ by Leonard Cohen has a âYearâ tag in the .flac file of 2016. Plex originally imported this date as 2016-01-01 to the âOriginally Availableâ tag, and it would display as 2015 in my library.
Following a metadata refresh for this album, the âOriginally Availableâ tag is now 2016-10-21, which is the actual release date for this album. I then did a metadata refresh for the Artist, and all albums were updated like this.
So, it appears that the Plex Music Agent (which I use for my music library scanner and agent) is now ignoring the year tag from the file (even with âprefer local metadataâ selected) and is pulling the actual album release date from wherever it pulls such information.
edit: It also appears that for albums that do not have online data (I have a couple of personal mixtape/various artist albums, obviously not publicly release) the âOriginally Availableâ tag is kept as YYYY-01-01, corresponding to the âYearâ tag in the file. However, Plex now also displays the correct year for these albums, leading me to believe the backend date conversions when importing has been corrected.
Lastly, just a reminder, any âOriginally Availableâ fields that have been locked, will not be updated with a ârefresh metadataâ command.
tl;dr - This problem appears to be fixed with PMS version 1.27.0.5849, following a metadata refresh.
Thanks so much for the info!
Well, â â â â ! Now it appears that it may be not reading my local tags at all. With refresh metadata, Plex now completely ignores the âsort artist/sort album artistâ embedded tags in my music.
I will keep testing this.
âsort artistâ is irrelevant for Plex, as it doesnât have a list of track artists which might need sorting.
âsort album artistâ is only observed when the album artist is added into the Plex database for the first time.
After that it is already in the database and will not be retroactively changed by a newly added album.
(not to mention the fact that you can have several albums by an artist and there is no way to resolve differently tagged âalbum artist sortingâ orders in different albums)
1.27.0.5849 good news is this specific bug is âfixedâ, bad news is now there is a new bug.
Refreshing metadata for artists it seems to be almost always replacing the current artist poster image with random album art from one of the artistâs albums. So now i need to manually fix hundreds of artists.
âsort album artistâ is only observed when the album artist is added into the Plex database for the first time."
Well, thatâs interesting. I did a refresh metadata on my music library to fix the date issue, and now all album artists no longer respect the âsort album artistâ tag from my files. All solo artists have the âsort album artistâ tag in the file as lastname, firstname (e.g. Cohen, Leonard; Winehouse, Amy; Taylor, James), but Plex now shows the âsort artistâ tag in Plex as firstname, lastname.
Not cool.
Update: Did the Plex Dance on my music library, adding artists back one at a time to test. Plex is completely ignoring the embedded âsort album artistâ tag when I add my music back into the Library. I really donât want to have to edit every single artistâs metadata in Plex to sort them the way I want. I really do want to see Tori Amos before Leonard Cohen in my library.
The âsort artistâ error has been fixed in v. 1.27.0.5873
I donât see it fixed⊠I just tested an album, with 2021-01-01 date⊠Changed to 2021-01-2 and shows year 2021, switch it back to 2021-01-01 and shows year as 2020.
On version 1.27.0.5873, which seems to just have come outâŠ

On 1.27.0.5849 it seems to actually update the date field with the actual date, pulling from a metadata database, so maybe if date remains 01-01 the issue still remains, i am not sure. In my cases all i noticed was refreshing previous albums did correct the album year in main view, but it seems perhaps it simply pulled in full dates for all my albums, need to see.
Just using local meta so its never going to pull date from anywhere other than the year mp3 tag on the media⊠But clearly the year is 2021 so day and month shouldnât matter⊠They should fix whatever math they are doingâŠ
Yeah, the bug is still present in 1.27.0.5849 and 1.27.0.5873.
Iâll wait for 1.27.1 like @OttoKerner suggested above. I hope the issue is really fixed in that version this time.
Just updated to 1.27.0.5878, and still an issue. Lets hope 1.27.1 fixes it - any clue to when that might drop?
Seems odd they canât just get this fixed in this BETA release that is currently going⊠this bug is pretty annoying and I canât just let it go⊠I have to manually update all the ones that I see.
