Plex Skipping forward by a few seconds on Web Player

Any chance to have someone on the Plex team acknowledge this?

I assume they know, since they replied here:

Sould be the same issue.

How can I get the Windows version of 1.16.3.1402? Any help is appreciated!

OK - I am on the latest version and getting skipping on web browser and not on player. Only on high rate movies. Moving playback to max 12 Mbps resolved this, but I want the higher resolution and yes, I can tell the difference. So if older versions work, what changed to the web browser to cause it to skip? How do we get older windows versions such as 1.16.3.1402 ?

They recently deployed a fix (I dug into your thread)

wget https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server-new/1.16.5.1554-1e5ff713d/debian/plexmediaserver_1.16.5.1554-1e5ff713d_amd64.deb?_ga=2.204785427.2008125745.1566530859-1649753701.1498437628
dpkg -i plexmediaserver_1.16.5.1554-1e5ff713d_amd64.deb

Will be testing this fix out tonight and will report back if it doesn’t. If I go quiet, consider it resolved

I am sorry, but this error isn’t solved on Web Player yet.
And I am already running on the latest 1.16.6.1592.
So please don’t close this issue yet!

After downgrading to Version 1.16.3.1402 a few weeks ago, streaming is stable again.

I too am waiting to see if there is a reliable fix for public release. This is the first time I’ve not upgraded Plex as the updates became available. I’m a little surprised there isn’t more official attention/communication about this issue.

Having the same issue:

  • Skips several seconds every few seconds.
  • Only occurs on high quality content played at original quality.
  • No network speed issues.
  • No server resource issues.
  • Issue is resolved by switching to convert automatically.

Web Client Version 4.4.1
Server Version 1.16.5.1554

Same issue except none of the versions worked for me.

Tried these versions :

  • plexmediaserver_1.16.3.1402-22929c8a2_amd64.deb
  • plexmediaserver_1.16.5.1554-1e5ff713d_amd64.deb
  • plexmediaserver_1.16.6.1592-b9d49bdb7_amd64.deb

Issue :

  • Video skips forward every couple of seconds consistently
  • Only on Web Player on Chrome so far
  • Only when played on Original Quality
  • Most of my content is x264 videos

Been experiencing this issue for months now. It has been long enough that I am no longer sure exactly when it started.

Symptoms:

  • Video skips forward a few seconds at multiple random intervals
  • Only Web Player on Google Chrome appears to be affected (I have not tested Chromium)
  • Audio bitrate, or type, does not appear to affect video skipping (Opus, MP3, AC3, TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, etc.), except when using it to trigger the transcoding of the stream (such as when deactivating DTS)
  • Videos of ANY quality will skip (tested from 1.1Mbps to 30Mbps+) if set to play at Original Quality

Potential Workarounds**:

  1. Use Plex Web Player in Firefox
  2. Make Plex transcode every video which can be triggered via audio settings, or by setting the video Quality to lower than its original quality
  3. Use a different Plex client to stream, especially if it requires video to be transcoded, such as a Roku stick, or even a phone or tablet

** Listed in order of personal preference. However, all are extremely temporary solutions.

Environment:

Network Type: Wired
Network Speed: Gigabit (end-to-end)
Plex Web Client Version: 4.6.4
Plex Server Version: 1.17.0.1709
Google Chrome Version: 77.0.3865.75
Firefox Version: 66.0.4

I updated to Version 1.17.0.1709 and the skipping issue seems to be resolved for me - on a Samsung smart TV.

Version 1.17.0.1709 I am using the latest version and it started skipping but it is only on high bitrate 1080p I would like to know where is the other version so i can ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  back to a earlier version

@zbeak
As I mentioned before: this issue is about the Plex-Web Player and not about the Samsung Smart TV. It is not resolved on the Web-Player in Chrome yet!
If you have time, you can of course be nice and helpful and test it for yourself and post the conclusion here, if direct-play of high-bandwidth-movies has worked for you and your configuration in Chrome or chromium-based browsers.

Still having this issue. Version 1.17.0.1709. Only workaround I’ve got is to transcode every time. Any time I playback in original quality it skips. True for all blueray rips.

I’m just here to confirm that this has been happening to me for many months. Initially it was only Android and iOS. Now it’s effecting Chrome as well. All of my users are complaining about it and I even went as far as reinstalling Windows on my server, and built a fresh Plex server. Same issue occurs. Happens with all media types, including HEVC low bit rate 1080p files. It seems to only happen when using auto-quality, no matter what the stream quality is currently at. I have an episode playing right now, and auto quality is at 1.5mbps SD, and had a 5ish second skip.

It seems this is happening to me when the auto quality changes. It was just streaming at 1080, and when it switched to a lower quality, it skipped ahead.

Happening in chrome on PMS 1.18.0.1846

Happening to me on the latest version in Chrome. In Safari I get an error and the player quits. Only in browsers is this happening.

I think this is Chrome problem, not Plex… But i don’t know, just guessing…

PlexMediaServer-1.16.6.1592 Fixed for me
Fixed Hw acceleration too.
