Plex Skipping forward by a few seconds on Web Player

While watching certain videos the plex web player skips ahead a few seconds about 3 times per minute. Usually skipping about 5 seconds forward. This doesn’t happen in the Windows Store Plex app, or android app and it doesn’t happen when transcoding to any quality. Happens on same network which is entirely gigabit wired and with and without secure connections enabled. The buffer bar seems to be far ahead of the scrub ahead as well so I don’t believe it is a network issue. There is never a pause or anything just skips those few seconds and continues.

I got the same problem on Server version 1.15.3.876.
So far it seems to occur only on Plex Web player in Chrome and Firefox under Windows 10.
No problems in Chrome and Safari on MacOS.

Can confirm the problem happens on Windows 7 also, using Chrome browser.

Please post the Plex media info XML of the video in question.

Please do also compare the behavior when using the real Plex Media Player (free download below).

Same issue here - skips every
1.15.5.994 - very strange behavior - MacOS (upgraded SSD to M.2 / late 2013 model, data on detachable SSD) using Chrome - only does this on The Last Jedi (also have wired gigabit internet, so it’s not a network issue /i’ve rebooted everything to verify a couple of times.) Everything else works fine. Just the Last Jedi. Not sure what to do.

Sorry - skips every 8 seconds or so (ahead), plays for 8 seconds, then skips another 8, ad nauseum.

Same issue since the server update to 1.15.4.944.
Chrome on W7.
Skips for between 2 to 10 seconds every other second.
At first it happened only to high bitrate movies added since yesterday’s server update to 1.15.4.944, then it progressively got worse and now includes every movie I have with a bitrate over ~20mbps.
When converting to 20mbps the same movies work fine on the web player.
Plex Media Player works fine for the original and Plex for iOS works fine on the same network or remote.

I have the same issue here with the web app for certain videos, dedicated players seem to work okay.

Same issue here, if i force it to transcode it works fine, direct streaming to my tv or anything other than the Chrome Web Player is fine.

I did some more testing, and it is only affecting direct stream or direct played high bitrate content.

Anything 20Mb/s or higher skips, if i transcode it lower to 12Mb/s its fine.

If i direct play or direct stream anything under 20Mb/s it works fine.

Direct play / stream works fine with higher 20Mb/s content on my LG tv and Samsung tv.

Nothing on my hardware has changed in the last year and has been fine since the last few updates.

Yep also getting this. Fine on my Fire TV Stick but using the web player and Chrome it stutters when direct playing, it’s fine when I force it to transcode. Any solution?

PMP generally plays fine, but I recall having some occurrences there as well, like once or twice on the same place in one film.

Common to all of the tree videos is the relatively high bitrate.
Video 2 was not analysed yet.
Video 3 has a faulty bandwidth analysis.

You might want to re-analyse those two.

Compare playback in the web app with playback in Plex Media Palyer.

Do also compare playback in the web app with your default settings, to playback where you enforce transcoding (by restricting the bandwidth to e.g. 20mbps)

Just tried to analyze all 3 again (though it should be done long ago at maintenance), no effect.
Problem persists only while streaming original quality. Converting, all is ok.

Plex Media Palyer has no problem, as well as Firefox 66.0.5 (64-bit). Only Chrome (74.0.3729.169 (Official Build) (64-bit) at the moment) appears to be affected.

I’ve noticed the skipping issue. I just recently setup my own plex server. Previously I was streaming content from a friend’s plex. His content streamed smoothly where mine has not. Well not unless I use the windows app, android app or my samsung smart tv app. So when I stumbled across this topic I decided to test with Internet Explorer instead of Chrome. IE plays without skipping where Chrome still skips. So I went back and streamed something from my friends plex server. Still plays smoothly. My movies I’m ripping at full quality. I can’t say about his. I’m wondering if that might be the issue?

Just started getting this in the last week. Also Chrome web player (74.0.3729.169). Also only on direct play.

Could you all make a note about which audio track type was selected when the issue occurs?
If your files have several audio tracks, could you select a different one and verify if the issue is the same?

From the data above, it appears to occur with DTS HD MA and TrueHD audio tracks.

Same happening here with DTS-HD MA and TrueHD tracks on Web player. Direct play is fine on the SHIELD, Apple TV and iOS.
