Ive been creating separate folders for my movies’ under the movie folder and another subfolder for each movie named “Others”. im putting the trailers in these other folders and they are showing up under the reviews of the movies. Some search agent is looking for these trailers and adding some random movie to my library. This movie is not in my server library.
!. is there any way to remove trailers and extras from ANY agent search altogether?
Two observations upfront…
- If you want Plex to recognize trailers as such, you should add them to a
Trailers
subfolder (e.g.Movies
>Movie Name (year)
>Trailers
>Theatrical Trailer.ext
) - The subfolder name for other-type local extras should be
Other
, notOthers
(frequently falling into that trap myself)
As for the actual issue you describe… would you mind sharing some more details, e.g. what scanner/agents you’re using for this library, file names vs. what movie is added? Usually only the scanner detects regular content items (e.g. movies).
Thanks again Tom, im going to re-create with the subfolder Other(no s) and get back to you.
thanks again
Usually Plex ignores the content of a subfolder named Extras
. I remember seeing some other post of some hiccup where Plex let those files slip through and attempted to match them like movies of their own.
If this is a trailer, make sure to name it as such… e.g.
Movies
Key Largo (1948)
Key Largo (1948).mkv
Trailers
Largo.mkv
or
Movies
Key Largo (1948)
Key Largo (1984).mkv
Largo-trailer.mkv
Ok, so. Check out this workflow:
Added Key Largo movie folder with Other subfolder. Added the trailer and it worked fine. Added another movie folder called The Pajama Game and added a Other subfolder and added a trailer there. Agents did their scan for the Pajama Game and now found the pajama game trailer as a movie called “The other lamb”. AND now if i try to delete this other lamb movie it shows two files associated to it, the pajama game trailer and the key largo trailer!! Heres what i get when i try to delete, and if i do delete either of those files, they are deleted from my nas directory as well
other lamb|690x432
I keep wondering why you’re so reluctant to put those trailers into an actual Trailers
folder
If the folder is called Others
, not Other
, Plex will keep looking for movies and attempt to match them. It seems it’ll consider the parent folder’s name and therefore throws the items together as the same main item – I don’t think that’s intended… however your most straight forward way to overcome this issue is to simply name that extra folder Trailers
and be done with it
PS: if you enable deleting files from within your library, this will indeed delete the original file – not just the record inside Plex.
Tom, I went with the inline method instead and it doesn’t seem to be giving me any problems so far so i think ill stick with that for now. Once again i want to thank you for your help!
Nick
If the inline method works, but the folder method doesn’t, I am going to say you have the option enabled to automatically scan your library when changes are found. With this, PMS will only scan the new file. This won’t know it’s in a folder so it treats it as a regular file and it becomes a movie. The inline method avoid this since it scans the movie and the extra file at the same time. The other option is to turn off that setting.
Thanks, the inline method seems to be working best for now although I’m not sure what the advantages or disadvantages are for the two methods.
Thanks again
