Plex sporadically not detecting movies

Server Version#: Version 1.24.4.5081
Player Version#: Windows 1.40.1.2823-6f60f3a7

Hello

Does anyone know why plex doesn’t pick up certain movies in my folder, its sporadic. Permission are set correctly for both tv show and movies. Tv shows are picked up fine, but some movies aren’t being detected. I have to manually move from the folder and add it back in order for plex to see it
Everything was working fine until I noticed some movies weren’t showing up. I am not sure what changed.

I have a plex account with read/write on the entire folder
\media\library\Movies and I am following the

/Movies/MovieName (release year)/MovieName (release year).ext

No idea why some movies are detected while some aren’t.

There is another thread with someone with the same issue. It has happened to me like twice in the last year but I just go rerun the permissions at the parent folder level and it fixes it so I haven’t worried about it. But definitely randomly the file permissions for something aren’t right. Don’t know if something happens in post processing that causes it or what. But it’s so sporadic for me that I haven’t worried about it.

Do you mean remove the permission and add it back?

Those permissions you’re sharing will only work on DSM5/6 – if you have updated your NAS to use DSM7, make sure to grant access to the system user PlexMediaServer.

Beyond that… have you already verified the movies have not been accidentally mismatched as a different movie?

  • you can filter your library by Duplicates to see if some files have been added as different quality versions of existing items.
  • you can sort the library by Date Added to check if some of your newly added files have been matched as something entirely different.

Beyond that…

I’ve removed and added the plex account and added the RW permission. I am still getting the sporadic issues. Is there anything to check in the logs?

i was referring to using file station to go the the parent folder where your media is held. right click > properties > permissions > check the box for apply to all subfolders > applying. If you have multiple folders where media is stored that plex accesses then you couldn’t just do it at the parent level but you could do the same for each directory.

Re: logs, i would personally assume the logs will be found in the client that handles your media media processing. whether that is nzbget, couchpotatoe, medusa, radarr, etc. whoever sets the permissions of the file is where you would want to look at logs to see why it set the permissions wrong.

I am still running into sporadic problems where plex isn’t detecting certain movies, does anyone else have any ideas? I keep adding an removing permission, it doesn’t seem it make any difference.

Update.

I think I may have solved the issue by removing my admin account that runs sabnzb in docker container. I added a regular user account to the environment, gave it RW on the share and applied permission from the parent folder. So far things have been working.
