Plex Still Showing Old Server, But Not New One

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3876
Player Version#: N/A

Hi,

I’ve recently made the move from Windows 10 to Ubuntu. I deleted and uninstalled the server from from Windows 10, but occasionally the server doesn’t work. When I attempt to troubleshoot it only displays the old server and keeps prompting me to claim it. It only shows the old server when I access Plex through http://localhost:32400/web or http://127.0.0.1:32400/web.

I’ve gone to Setings > Authorised Devices and the old server isn’t on the list. I’ve reluctantly deleted my current server from this list in the hope I could just sign back in and go through the setup and customization options again but the recent server isn’t displayed at all now.

So I was hoping that someone more knowledgeable than myself can help with the following queries I have:

Why is the old server still being displayed?

How can I completely remove it? (I’ve checked the forums with no luck)

How do I get the recent server to display again? Or the option to create it again from scratch?

Why do I only get the option to remove the server I want working and not the old one, even though it’s the old one that shouldn’t exist?

Why do I get prompted to install Plex Media Server when I sign in through https://app.plex.tv/ and select ‘My Media’ to try and access my server, when the server is up and running?

Thanks,
MakaveliNBK

When you open the local web app, perform the reset procedure: https://support.plex.tv/articles/customizing-plex-web#resethome

Re-claim your new server using this procedure: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

Ok I’ll give it a try and let you know if it works. Thanks for the quick reply!

when you created the server on ubuntu, did you move any setting values from the windows registry to the Preferences.xml ?

At the moment there is no active server attached to your plex.tv account, and the last server “MYPLEX” was signed out 2 months ago

Start with a fresh install on ubuntu - so shutdown the Plex Media Server process and related processes and delete the Preferences.xml and then launch the server - then on the server directly, start a new browser session - start with a private session so no cached browser data and then try http://127.0.0.1:32400/web and sign in and should get the option to setup the server and claim it

The server logs will help identifying issues

sorry did not spot you got answer from ottokerner!

Quick update:

@OttoKerner I performed the reset procedure and tried re-claiming but wasn’t prompted to add a server.

@sa2000 I only moved the metadata folder from Windows 10, no other files. I reinstalled the latest version of Plex and am being prompted to create a server. I’ve deleted the old libraries from the previous server and am trying to add the relevant folders from my external HDDs but when I navigate to ‘/media/username/’ it is no longer populated with a list of my HDDs, as was previously displayed. If I navigate to the HDDs directly from their mounted location, no folders or files are listed.

How do I access my HDDs folders from Plex?

They need to be absolute paths - linux paths to the directories and can be typed in directly if they do not show and you cannot drop down to them
