Plex stops playing after 15-20min on Android TV

That kind of network activity isn’t entirely unexpected, as it buffers in chunks, and not continuously at the same rate. Is it just the graph you’re looking at, or is it actually stopping and buffering? Can you please share your logs from both the server, and client, just after replicating this issue?

Just let us know what the item was, and the rough time to look at

The logs continue to capture things, they’re just not available for download until you enable it again. So you can replicate something, then turn on network logging and grab them. Are you on v7.30?

After updating and changing Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than to 0 everything works

You shouldn’t have to set Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than to 0 in v7.30, can you please test with that version?

Now on v7.30 and no problems since updating and changes from prev-post

Glad to hear it’s working for you! :woohoo:

I’m using 7.31.0.1.16549 and it crashes every 20 minutes like clockwork. I have to restart the Shield simply to get back into Plex. A few weeks ago Plex worked trouble free as it has for years. Then it became virtually useless. #playback

The video stops playing after 20 minutes, or the app crashes? They’re two quite different things

Define “crash”. Either way, the video stops playing. Functionally from a user perspective it makes little difference: playback halts.

The video stops playing and we are presented with a grey screen featuring the Plex logo. It remains like that indefinitely.

Occasionally the video stops playing and punts us back to the Plex home screen, so we can just click the video and resume, but that has been happening less and less.

Crash. The app stops and either totally restarts, or takes you to the Android home screen. From an engineering perspective, they’re entirely different, and quite different to solve. Can you reproduce the issue, and then grab some logs, please?

I can, tomorrow. I’m going to bed now.

How do I get the PLAYER logs? I can get the server logs from the Synology box, but I don’t know how to get the player logs.

I am not having this problem on my Smart TV with embedded Android TV / Plex. It is only happening with my 3 Nvidia Shields with Android TV / Plex. I have a suspicion it is a problem on the player side because everything is using the same media server. I will of course provide all logs.

Where do you want the logs uploaded?

And what people without plex pass can do?
I have mi box s updated to the latest version and the latest version of plex and everything I play, get stuck after 15 to 20 minutes and to get it back on track, I need to go back and start playback again.
I’ve had the amazon tv stick for years and it never did it.
Thank you.

Similar issue here in mi Xiaomi Mi TV 4S 55.

Both server and app updated (1.19.3.2764 server, 8.0.1.17410 app). After ~12 minutes (sometimes 11:30, sometimes 13), playback stops.

I can’t try “Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than” settings as I don’t have Plex Pass.

I’m trying to get player logs, will upload them as soon as they are available. Is there any other test I can perform to track this down?

Regards,

EDIT: checked both client and server logs at the time the issue was reproduced and nothing is shown. As logs contain maybe-sensitive data, I will send them to Plex stuff if requested.
