Plex stutters on Apple TV

Server Version#: 1.29.0.6244
Player Version#: 8.10 (4002]

Hello

Since the penultimate version, everything stutters after a few minutes. In the settings I have to set “Automatically Adjust Quality” to ON and that although I have Apple TV connected via cable (Gbit Ethernet). For me a no go because the picture quality suffers massively.

Has anyone else had this experience and can something be done about it?

Thank you

Yep. Happens to me as well. But only with 1080p HDR rips from Netflix. 4K HDR & 1080p HDR from all other sources are fine.

The only way to stop it is turning off direct play. The automatically adjust settings won’t do anything if streaming at home.

There is another thread on this on the forum.

Same here with Netflix HDR Rips. But not since a long time. In my opinion its a bug in the Apple TV App.

Yeah. Probably is. Infuse works perfectly, but I dislike the interface, much prefer Plex.

Stuttering doesn’t happen with Direct Stream (ie Direct Play off), but there is a very slight CPU/HD overhead with that.

I came here to report this as well. To get Plex to play anything without stuttering badly I had to turn off “Automatically Adjust Quality”.

Automatically Adjust Quality doesn’t need to be used when streaming at home. However, Direct Streaming (Direct Play off) will stop the stuttering, but with a slight CPU/HD overhead.

This issue does need to be fixed.

I stream from other servers, so auto adjust quality is useful. Turning off Direct Play doesn’t fix this issue for me, only turning off auto adjust quality fixes it.

Good to know. Thanks

Hopefully the developers will fix the issue.
