Plex tidal integration

Support for Family Plans? I’m not currently a Tidal Customer, but would likely require a Family plan and this does not seem like an option…

Does it at least work if you have a family plan directly from tidal?

discovery radio icon showed up in my music library, however I haven’t been able to get the tidal trial working, clicking discovery radio (on IOS) gives generic toast error ‘couldn’t retrieve play queue for this item’

if discovery radio only works with tidal, then it should either not be displayed if tidal is not enabled, or it should give a proper error message indicating that tidal is required.

Sorry, Plex doesn’t currently support/offer their “family” plan.
There is a desire to support it, but currently there is nothing definitive to share publicly.

When I play via the Web I get the following error:

Playback on iOS is fine.

Yes, that’s a known issue currently that it shows even if you don’t have a TIDAL account linked. It will be fixed in the next server update.

So for my wife and I to use the feature we would have to both have a separate subscription? My wife’s account is part of my Plex Home.

Seems like a deal-breaker if it only works for a single account… :frowning:

Currently a deezer family plan subscriber and would love to switch for the integration, but it doesn’t seem possible in the current setup, without costing quite a bit more…

google play music family plan, so I’d love to see that integrated in the same manner as tidal.

not really interested in tidal, too expensive and already using GPM.

I just heard from a developer:
If the Tidal family plan has 5 independent sets of login credentials, you could link each of those with the plex.tv account of the respective family member.

Of course this requires that each of those family members has a full plex.tv account.
(However, none of them needs to have a Plex Pass and they can all be invited into the Plex Home for the fast user switching and the access to the mobile apps)

So technically, this is supposed to work.

Just the ‘bundle offer’ of Plex Pass with the Tidal family plan (and the use of the family plan with managed users) requires more development and contractual preparations and is therefore not available, but might be some time in the future.

I am so excited for this unexpected release. I use Tidal and Plex daily, so this is a dream come true, really.

I am most exited currently for universal playlists. Is it possible to ‘import’ a Tidal Playlist, into my Plex library? Or do I have to ‘select all’ type scenario, and add them to a new, duplicate Playlist on Plex?

I have been able to integrate Tidal with PMS and can see and access via web based gui. PM Player however is not picking up Tidal under “Online Content”

This could be just my ears deceiving me but I could swear that playing tidal songs in plex sounds slightly worse than playing in tidals own app.
How can I describe this… In plex it sounds murky and breaking as if it was low bitrate files being amplified cranked up the equaliser for louder sounds…

Here is an example song where the difference is quite big in Android phone.

Ps. Sorry if I broke the news about tidal too early

Is this the reason why the songs played via plex sounds slightly worse than in tidal on app?
For example tidal hifi and tidal app in Google Android TV pulls in high bitrate for songs played. Does this mean plex serve different copy of the songs that’s susceptible to more compression loss?

You should be getting HiFi quality if you have a HiFi account @raditokyo.

If you open the player options (three dots in the bottom right), tap “Playback info” what is value for quality?

I know that plex doesn’t give me lower bitrate files, it’s just that it sounds different than when being played in tidal (for some songs) as if it uses different setting for file compression or different equaliser settings. I noticed this more for the live / concert type of songs, not the studio album. That’s why I said it sounds breaking for some songs.

I don’t have hi-fi anymore so can’t test

I’m alredy subscribed to TIDAL HiFi and after linking my existing account to Plex I still don’t get the Plex Pass? Do I need to cancel my TIDAL subscription and re-sign through Plex?

EDIT Found it out:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/adding-tidal-subscriptions-to-plex/

so I got the tidal trial going and i can see the tidal new playlists/artists/albums/tracks/etc.

however this page is empty.

Should I expect this to get automatically populated by artists in my existing music library?

Or I am expected to manually go and add artists to tidals library? (I aint doin that)

hello, it still does not appear to be working (ios) even after getting the trial going and linked up

What you’re seeing is the “My TIDAL” section. That is where you can see TIDAL content you want to save to your TIDAL collection.
To browse TIDAL’s content, you’ll want to click the TIDAL text on the left to see the provider home page. That will give you a list of new and trending items. You can also search for content in the search bar at the top of the page.

Does Plex prefer Tidal metadata over local metadata on the server?
Lets say you have an artist you’ve set a custom Artist Poster for and the Tidal artist page uses a different image, does Plex retain the original set in the server?

How about enhancing metadata for existing Plex music entries. Let’s say in my collection, I have an album with no review/blurb, but on Tidal, that album has an include review/synopsis, will that content get populated into my Plex server?

Finally, what happens when you cancel Tidal? Do the Tidal albums get removed, do they leave Trash Can entries, do they remain but just unplayable? As someone who has on & off used Apple Music, the AppleMusic files have seriously messed up my local library after cancelling, they all just remain in my library but unusable.

What if I have an album but for some reason I am missing a song or 2, will Tidal add just those songs to complete the album?

I am not seeing any tidal associated artists or tidal albums when I go to an artist page in my library.

If I search for an go to the artist in tidal, I can see this artists stuff.

example @ tidal artist page @ https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/provider/tv.plex.provider.music/details?key=%2Flibrary%2Fmetadata%2F5b9205d678b4bc003c43453b&context=hub.search.artist

not sure if that is specific to my library, but that search > russian circles > tidal

comparing my library russian circles (7 albums) to tidal (11 albums), tidal has 1 live album I am missing and 3 singles. But these are not showing up on my library artist > russian circles page.

according to the article linked above, there should be a tidal section with tidal albums and tidal recommendations.

not seeing those.

am I supposed to have to add this artist to tidal, before the tidal stuff will show up in my library ?

if so that aint happening either.

if not, then either its currently borked, or has not completely integrated into my library yet (given is 200k tracks).

I could see the value of this if someone was already invested into tidal and had favorited artists and tracks etc, but there is not any value for new users who then have to essentially duplicate artists/albums/tracks from their existing library into their tidal library.

sorry, not for me.

since plex already knows the music and play history of my existing library, it should (perhaps with approval first) automatically ‘import’ or refer to that existing library to pull into tidal.

the last thing anyone needs is to manage duplicate music libraries.
