Albums playable on Tidal.com, but not through Plex

I have a Plex Pass and a Tidal subscription through Plex. However, I’ve had this situation creep up a lot lately.

Albums appear on Tidal.com, and play fine the Tidal app or the Tidal website. The albums also show up in the Plex view of Tidal. BUT, they won’t actually play from the Plex web app or the iOS platform. I’m using the Plex web app (https://app.plex.tv/desktop) in Google Chrome.

MOST of the Tidal content plays fine, but these following examples are exceptions:

From Tidal proper, artist “Tax The Heat”, album “Change Your Position”:

From the Plex view of the Music On TIDAL, error message after I hit “Play” on the first track:

Again, I’ve got 500+ Tidal albums in my library that play fine in Plex, but the ones above don’t work. I’m using the Plex Web version 4.33.1, and Media Server Version 1.18.3.2156. Here’s what I’ve tried:

Un-linking, Re-linking my Tidal account,
Disabling/Enabling the Music Online Media Source flag
Shutting down Plex server & restarting
Rebooting the PC

I’ve looked through the logs, and here are the only instances of the word “error” after I clicked play:

Let me know if i need to provide logs from a different file. The above log may not be relevant or helpful.

Thanks for reading.

How many browser add-ins are activated in Chrome?
If you gave one or several, try to disable them.
Try to use the web app in a ‘privacy’ tab.

Thanks for the ideas & responding so quickly!

Here are all my plug-ins (“extensions”) that were active.

I disabled them & tried again. Same error message.
I also tried a tab in “Incognito” mode, but same error message.

Loved the idea of the problem being a browser issue, but it also won’t work in the iOS app (iPhone). So, it’s something that crosses platforms.

To experiment, want to give that Bad Religion artist a try?
The album “Age of Unreason” will not play for me, but the regular version of “The Dissent of Man” will play fine.

Thanks again for your help.

I can actually reproduce with this album.
Will forward this to the developers.

Thanks a TON, kind Otto.
Should I continue to add other specific examples in this thread? It seems a new example shows up each week as I shuffle through my favorite songs in my library.

No thanks, I have found plenty myself.

I haven’t seen this particular error, but I am having a weird DRM error. Any idea if it can be related? I have attached some more liberal logs in my thread. Would be awesome if @yortdog could compare them to his own and see if the same error is perhaps occurring, but being caught somewhere in the Plex code resulting in this network error being displayed instead.

My original thread can be found here:

I’ve reviewed my recent logs after re-testing & experiencing my s1001 (Network) issues noted above & can confirm that I don’t have any of the same s6007 (DRM) error codes. I’m pretty sure this is a different problem.

Although, to be fair, I’m a novice at interpreting the Plex logs and am generally unsuccessful in making them useful to others. Sorry I couldn’t help. As soon as the 2 albums mentioned above appear fixed, I’ll follow up.

I have a very similar issue, although my tidal error is “media”. Some albums simply won’t play. Probably 95% have no issues but a hand full won’t load. It’s always the same ones too. For example Hello Exile by the Menzingers fails, but plays in the Tidal app.

I’ve run into this for the first time. I added some albums by the same band to my library from TIDAL. The newest album will play fine, but the others get skipped in Plexamp and display the Error code: s1001 (Network) error when I attempt to play them from the web client.

Here are the albums (the album Going Grey does play):

Is this still a mystery, or is it being chalked up to this: Tidal plex no songs

All those albums play in Plex for me (UK)

Hmm.

@Noah0504: I checked those albums, and here’s the break down. These play fine: Ann, Going Grey, Back On Top (version 1 & 2). These albums do not play & show that Error Code: s1001 (Network) message: Rose, Talon, Talon (commentary), The Front Bottoms.
I’m in the USA.

I am new to the Tidal on Plex, i am getting the same errors on every 2nd to 3rd song, My question to this is as follow, is there a way to automatically skip the song? i don’t want to press skip every time on every 2nd 3rd song. (i run a 1000mb fiber line internet is definitely not a problem here.)

Thanks for confirming. I swear that Back on Top wasn’t working for me, but I did try and it is as well. Maybe I hadn’t tried that one previously.

I’ve discovered at least 2 albums that will now not play after previously playing without issue. Coincidentally it was after a server restart.

Plenty of other albums are playing normally, so who the heck knows. I’ve reached out to TIDAL also, we’ll see if that gets me anywhere.

EDIT: For what it’s worth (which probably isn’t much), I reached out to TIDAL about these issues, and they essentially just said it’s a Plex problem. I know I’ve seen old posts over on the Roon forums about similar issues, but not anything that’s really recent.

My issue is similar. I am using Plex through a 4K AppleTV. There are library items that show when I am searching Tidal through Plex that do not exist when I search the Tidal app. These are the albums that will stop play when called up during shuffle all playback. One such album “Shine On Brightly” by Procol Harum. Shows in Plex, does not exist in Tidal app. Others are similar.

I have experienced this randomly from when I first integrated TIDAL with my Plex library (April this year).

It is entirely random. Albums will show as available in TIDAL and be playable through the TIDAL app and the direct TIDAL library in Plex, but once I add the album to my Plex library it just skips.

A very unscientific estimate but I would say it is probably around 5% of all TIDAL albums.

Just as an example: of all Elton John’s studio albums which I added from TIDAL (about 30) two suffered from this problem - Victim of Love and 21 at 33.

Edit: I am in Australia. Don’t know if this is a region problem.

I have had this issue as well. I’m in the US, had trouble with the album “#1 Hit Record” by Cende. It persisted for weeks (if not months), but then it suddenly started working. I’ve seen it happen for other albums here and there since, but I installed the Tidal app as a fallback.

Would love an explanation, or at least a workaround to manually fix this when it pops up. It’s not a fatal bug for me yet re: Tidal via Plex, but it has that potential.

Hello Plex,
I have a Plex Pass, NAS and an integration to Tidal. I play all through my TV via a Fire Cube. I love the Plex interface to Tidal. I am having the same problem as mentioned above. Plex crashes when I search for certain artists but this is not true for every artist. I would estimate 1 out of 4 artist searches. I am trying to add them to My Tidal. but the system crashes before I get that far. I will not even show my setup to a visitor because I fear they will request an artist to see it work and it will crash over and over again. Embarrassing. I was told the last Plex update should have repaired this. I also see an issue where I am able to add an artist to My Tidal, but many of the displayed albums will not play. I simply get an error message. Please get me an update to this issue. I do not like the Tidal user interface and don’t want to go that way. Please make Plex work as designed.

Mike
