I subscribed to the Tidal premium ad-on (which I’m sure brings in additional revenue for Plex), and I’ve noticed that although my admin account (which can really mess things up and delete content) is able to access Tidal, managed user accounts cannot.
I made sure to enable managed user access to tidal in settings first.
I had the same issue with web content before, which has since showed up for managed users.
When can we expect managed user (and friend accounts?) to be able to access Tidal?
per another thread, only the admin user can use. Imagine this won’t change due to licensing restrictions, unless some sort of family plan is offered via Plex.
It’s doubtful that they’ll allow multiple users to access Tidal but it would be nice if they allow the Admin user to assign Tidal to a managed user. I have restricted content that only admin can access so the main user account is what I generally use. I don’t need to use Tidal on my Admin account but on the Main user.
I use my plexpass/plex server to allow people to backup their phones on a family controlled(ish…) cloud server rather than one belonging to some corporation with no fear or scruples.
If I leave Tidal streaming on my admin account, anyone who grabs the remote can flip through anyones camera roll.
Separation of admin privileges from the “owner viewing account” has been a constant struggle.
So if they wont allow TIDAL to be viewed by users you have added as friends ,and you cant SYNC songs " like any other music service for offline listening " then this is pretty pointless
I think you can get around this by creating a separate “Full” plex account with an email address. Link the tidal account to it, add it to your server via the normal method and invite the account to Plex Home.
Then you can have a separate account, that is Plex Home enabled, but is a real account that could be linked to Tidal. I have not tested this myself but plan too very soon…
I have used this same method without Tidal integration, though, so partially tested…
I’m having the same problem. I do not use my admin account for daily use.
I have a seperate account for that. No point in having the Tidal account if this is not fixed…
Is there any plan to introduce a Tidal family plan integration to plex so that this CAN work with managed users? As pointed out above, this is a pointless integration and feature if I cannot share this with my few managed users. I will not give managed users permission to the admin account so they can use the music and risk other access issues.
I see no reason why a family plan from Tidal can’t mean allowing (at least a limited number) of managed users access to use the service.
Is this a feature plan on the timeline? If not i’ll have to cancel my trial.
I would also like to know if there are any plans for a family plan for managed users? There’s no point for this feature if you cannot allow it to be used with managed users.
I also signed up for this thinking managed users could access the tidal service. I have found sometimes I can login from a user 1 out of 10 times. I only use the master account in case I need to edit delete content. I get it if you have many users. I only have my immediate family including myself.
Maybe up to 3-5 users. I’ll be cancelling if this doesnt change in the future.
Same here I’m not one for subscriptions but thought my kids are teens and at least this way I might be able to stop buying per song and adding to plex music… No managed user access, for sure I’m dumping it. Even a family plan at any higher price I’ll drop it. Other services let you save local what’s the point of music that won’t play if I lose signal.
Great idea but the Plex mentality is sharing your local media with your family.
This integration is like paying to have access to Netflix through Plex…
If something isn’t figured out I’m fairly sure 90% of the trial people will not go beyond the trial and it will die.
I saw this as an opportunity to replace Spotify with tidal fore me and my family. If I is not able to share Tidal with my users I see no point in using Tidal. I will cancel the Tidal subscription when the trial ends if isn’t possible to share with my users.
To be clear. Is it a licensing thing and only the one account is allowed access to it. It cannot be shared with other Plex accounts. iI is a 1 to 1 link
The Online Media Sources setting we know is confusing since it “disabled for managed users” is an option that does not do anything. There is a report to fix that setting but sharing the the Tidal account is not something that will happen as far as I know
To be clear, you mean there are many users who already had a pre-existing subscription and likely won’t use the plex integration, and many others have snatched up a free trial, will get billed in a month, then be so angry they might stop using plex?
Either way, I’ll only keep tidal to play off my iPhone through my sonos–not because of plex.
But enjoy the gifted revenue stream either way (with the understanding it isn’t because the feature is useful of up to par).
