Plex + Tidal not working for managed users

Just curious how Plex’s offering is different from a sub directly from another streaming service. Don’t they also limit access to the account that signed up? You can’t share this access with others, right?

spotify: 1 active playback ( online ) + 3 offline devices
tidal: 1 active playback ( online ) + 5 offline devices
deezer: 1 active playback ( online ) + 2 connected devices ( 3 max. )

with the 1:1 restriction the feature is useless… (for me)
if i want to use tidal ( or spotify ) i use their app ( much more stable, auto redirect from services like spotalike ).

looks like im not the target audience
who should use this feature ?
plex hoster ? no
plex users ? maybe **
free users ? no **
** mobile/pc app lacks features

That’s number of devices. You still only can use it with 1 user right?

I can play Tidal content from multiple Plex clients at the same time.

This is correct, but then there should be the possibility to link the tidal account with the manages users! My family can’t use it if the family accounts on my Plex can’t be linked with Tidal… and sharing the admin account is not an option.

A Tidal family plan has different logins for each…wouldn’t a separate login satisfy a ‘1 to 1’ restriction?
And… does this paragraph from your site work with PlexHome?

What about TIDAL “Family” plans?

We are not currently able to offer “Family Premium” or “Family HiFi” TIDAL plans, sorry. If you already have such a plan through TIDAL, you can link to a different Plex account for each of the available TIDAL members. See the information earlier about linking to an existing TIDAL subscription.

Is there any way for my daughter to see her current tidal playlists in Plex?
I see someone mentioned we can add a ‘real’ user to ‘Home’ and give It restrictions. Do i understand that correctly?

If you have the Tidal family plan, yes you can link each tidal member to a Plex account. This doesn’t work with managed users, they have to be full Plex accounts.

The only problem with that is full Plex accounts get harassed to buy a plex pass, and managed users can make use of my lifetime subscription.

We need a way to get the tidal family plan, use it with multiple plex user accounts, and not have to get multiple plex passes.

You can invite full plex.tv accounts into your Plex Home.

Just thought I’d add that I was considering dumping Amazon Music in favour of Tidal until I saw that the integration doesn’t support Tidal family accounts / managed users - I’ve got an amazon music unlimited family sub and would want to same functionality from any plex / Tidal tie-in so that my kids can listen to music too, just via plex rather than Amazon…

I’ll probably move over when you can offer this, as the single pane of glass for all media - local and streamable is very appealing (as is not giving Jeff Bezos any more bloody money) - but will continue ponying up to Amazon until then.

so…you’ve lost a sale this morning…but have one in the bag at some point in the future!

Cheers
AJ

Regular Plex accounts under your Plex Home also get this.

So my wife, who god bless her, doesn’t care to understand the difference between deleting an episode after watching or moving on to the next episode needs admin access to use Tidal? Pretty safe to assume I will cancel after the free trial.

Likewise. Cancelling my trial TIDAL account, since I TIDAL won’t allow me to add family members to it unless I do so through the Partner (PLEX in this case) and PLEX won’t allow additional members. Sheesh.

Just a quick post in this forum to keep it alive & the good folks at Plex Inc. know this is still a problem. I bought into the Tidal scheme, like most here it seems, thinking the 4 other (managed) users on my server (1 x wife, 3 x kids) would have access. This kinda sucks right now. We need some fine-tuning of this service Plex Inc.

EDIT: I have never said a bad thing about Plex in my life.

what is full plex account? Plex account with pass?

Those which have own, separate usernames and passwords.

As opposed to ‘managed users’, which are sub-accounts of the server owner’s account.

they don’t have to have a plex pass?

It doesn’t matter.

Just thought I’d add to this for what it’s worth. I think there are two, slightly different, positions on what people want here.

I think it’s clear that most of us (certainly many of us) only use our Plex Admin accounts to perform admin functions and do not use this account for daily use of Plex.

With that in mind it seems there is a section of the Plex + Tidal subscribers that want to be able to allow all of their managed users to benefit from the Tidal integration, and this, I agree, would violate the 1:1 license with Tidal.

However, there is also a section that just want to be able to use the Tidal integration in ONE of their managed user profiles, i.e. the one that the Plex account owner actually uses to watch and listen to their Plex content on a daily basis. I fall into this group. I would like to integrate Tidal to augment my own existing music library and I want to be able to do this in the managed user profile I use for myself.

So I wonder if it is possible for Plex to allow the Plex account owner to DESIGNATE one managed user to get the Tidal integration. Perhaps even build in an extra layer of “compliance” by only allowing this designation to be changed once a month, or once every three months, to prevent people freely changing it every time a different managed user wanted to use Tidal. Could that work?

I welcome the recent change to allow managed users to access the DVR, the lack of this was a major flaw and the implementation is a good one. I’m hoping Plex can save the Tidal integration as a useful feature by allowing owners to actually use it in the way it was intended.

@SuperPlexd

Easiest way to achieve this, is to have 2 full plex accounts (email accounts)

1 x Plex Account with Plex Pass, would be the server account
1 x Plex Account without plex pass, would be added via the normal share process and then invited to Join the Plex Home.

The second account would have all the features of Plex pass because it is part of the home, and you could then link the Tidal account to it because it is a full plex account.

That would solve your issue…

Edit: All of my Plex home users, have full accounts, based on normal sign-up process. This allows the users to have a bit more additional control

Hey, thanks for feeding back.

I had read an earlier post of yours where you mentioned this approach (I think I ‘liked’ it - I can’t remember) and realised that this would be a great workaround.

I seriously contemplated implementing it until I remembered that I’d lose all my watched/played status and music playlists (as in, they wouldn’t be available in the new account). This is somewhat of a showstopper for me.

For me, backup/migration is the only area where Plex is lacking. I haven’t been able to understand why simple backup/restore tools cannot be built in to allow owners to easily migrate things like watched status, per-library custom media etc… Anyway, that’s for a different thread…

But again, thanks for the idea - it may just end up being my only recourse.
