Hey, so I spent the evening on this. I set up a new Plex account and added it to my existing Plex Pass home.
Then I spent several hours manually editing my watched shows (to get my On Deck right), recreating my movie playlists and some of my music playlists. I have also linked Tidal to the new account.
However, this new account has seemingly not picked up all the Plex Pass benefits as I keep getting invited to subscribe to a Plex Pass when I want to enable Sweet Fades when playing music. I don’t get any of the Plex Pass benefits for music such as the Library Radio, Album Radio or Random Radio options… I can’t add Tidal albums to my Plex Music library.
I thought leaving it overnight might iron this out but seems no dice. When they say all home members get the Plex Pass benefits do they just really mean free access to the mobile apps and the ability to watch movie trailers and extras?
No, that is not the case. Only the free use of mobile apps is passed down, AFAIK. [edit] just got confirmation: managed users get loudness levelling and sweet fades through their Plex Home, but regular users who joined a Home do not.
However: you are using a Tidal subscription with this account, right?
If you transfer this subscription to be billed through Plex, you get access to the necessary features.
If you choose a Tidal Hifi subscription, you get all Plex Pass features.
If you choose a Tidal Premium subscription, you get some Plex Pass features (mostly music-related).
see https://support.plex.tv/articles/adding-tidal-subscriptions-to-plex/
for a comparison.
For background, I’m an existing lifetime Plex Pass subscriber and had an existing Tidal Premium account. I connected my Tidal to Plex and now pay Plex for my Tidal subscription, benefitting from the small discount for being an existing Plex Pass owner. Although it is now my third paid month of Plex + Tidal, I still use the Tidal app 99.9% of the time as using it in the Plex app (having to switch to my Plex admin profile) and enjoying all the benefits that brings is simply too inconvenient.
I also have an extensive Plex Music library (the enhanced library with lyrics and all that goodness).
I understand Tidal integration brings some sweetness to the music capabilities but I’m noticing that in the new account I joined to my Plex Home none of the enhanced music features are pulling in, so I’m thinking this approach (suggested by @RandomNinjaAtk02) may not be ideal for Plex Pass owners who want to be able to fully use their Tidal integration in a profile that is not their admin account.
I have cancelled my Tidal for this very reason. (unable to share with managed users).
Also … I found the UI via Plex to be very limiting, especially on the Samsung client.
Just to say I’m in the same boat today. Purchased Tidal with the mindset of ditching Google play and sharing with my wife’s account through plex. But regardless of what I do, it isn’t having it.
Tidal seems to have a family plan. I think in order for other users to use Tidal on your Plex server they need to be part of your family plan and add their Tidal account to their Plex account on their own. Has anyone tried that yet?
That will work sort of. With the family plan you get 6 Tidal accounts. You can then link each Tidal account to a Plex account. You can’t do that with managed users though.
Only about $200 one time fee per managed user to move them to their own accounts with plexpass. Then the “feature” that generates revenue over time for plex will work, and it only takes a huge one time source of revenue.
Because I distinctly remember buying a friends mom an iTunes gift card so she could offline sync content from my plex server to watch while she was in the hospital for her last few weeks of life.
Yes. Members of your Plex Home inherit that Plex Pass ability from you, but only while they remain part of your Plex Home.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t necessary. Nor would it have worked. Sync is controlled by the server, not the user. There is a check box that you the server owner controls if a user can sync from your server or not.
Like many here, I do not use my Admin account for anything other than maintenance. I will most likely not be extending my 30-Day Free trial for Tidal if some way to use it from my “Main” account does not exist.
I see no way to assign the Tidal subscription over to my Plex Home users. They are not “real” accounts and I saw no way to choose which Plex Home user to tie the subscription too.
