Been having this issue for a while, I thought the latest PMS update would address this issue since it states:

  • (DVR) Plex Tuner Service would sometimes shut down while Plex Media Server was still running (#12223).

Basically at the 90 minute mark, Live TV (IPTV) gets stuck in a loop, then once it reaches 94 mins, the connection is terminated. I do not have this problem when testing on Tivimate.
The xTeve logs shows the following in the log:

No client is using this channel anymore. Streaming Server connection has ended

I’ve made sure the Terminate Session if Paused Longer… is set to zero. Have plenty of hard drive space and computer resources are minimal. When the stream is terminated, it still shows in the PMS dashboard and I have to restart the PMS.
Any ideas?

Was it paused when it stopped?

sounds similar to the problem i’m having. live tv will start looping after a random amount of time, could be 20min could be 2 hours and then is only fixed by restarting the stream. when it starts looping the bandwidth graph will jump higher than usual but by no means saturate the connection. this is only happening on android clients. roku devices aren’t having the issue.

No never paused, but while researching, people that had random terminations would go to that setting. I believe the Chromecast was suffering from this not too long ago because Plex thought nothing was playing.

I had also seen someone mention the issue with sessions ending for any media (not Live TV) at 94 mins on this forum, but in the end it was an issue with with using the Panasonic television embedded app… that was in 2018.

Yes, I forgot to mention that restarting the stream fixes it, but only sometimes for me. I either have to jump between channels to trigger something or wait. It’s just easy for me to restart the PMS. I have an old Roku, I’ll have to dust it off I can test on that and see if this is only affecting my 4k Fire sticks. Thanks for that info, will post back with an update.

Regardless, this is still an issue.

i’m fairly certain you have the same issue as many people here with the android live tv. some are reporting the 300 second bug with interlaced content which has the same symptoms and then others playing live tv with progressive content that happens at random intervals with the same symptoms. i’ve seen other people mention the bandwidth goes fairly high during the bug and that’s one way to tell if it’s the problem i’m describing. my roku users do not have the problem.

the 300 second bug is mitigated by turning off interlaced transcoding in the firestick 4k but doing that does not fix the similar bug with similar symptoms happening at random intervals

Fire Stick stops playing live tv every few minutes, exits to guide. ([FFmpeg] [ERROR] [tls @ 0x81b7e740] Error in the pull function.) - #187 by DaveBinM ← this one the bug is mentioned at the lower half of the thread

and many more

more so i’m concerned for paying customers that subscribe or buy lifetime just for the live tv feature that is taking plex so long to fix. it’s really disheartening…

Thanks for the extra info guys.

@kegbeach @Aacidus is this what you guys are experiencing?

I get that, but my issue is that it specifically happens at the 90 minute mark if left on just one channel all of the time and loops until it reaches minute 94, upon reaching 94 the session is terminated.

pretty much sums it up visually haha

Interesting I’m going to run a channel for 90 minutes and see what it does. Bear mine I’m on hdhomerun I’m just trying to see if these issues are related or two separate things;).

Okay cool yeah another Plex employee is working on this. I sent big wheel the info.

i haven’t actually timed the issue for myself. it usually takes quite a while to happen so maybe it is 90 minutes.

Me neither I haven’t done an exact time. It does happen while watching but it also happens when starting the channel. I’ll take more notice.

Update: As mentioned by @kegbeach, I can confirm that my issue does not happen on a Roku (Roku 3) running Plex version 6.7.9.6822 after hitting the 90 and 94 minute mark.

yea, check the bandwidth graph in the server status when it happens. for me it spikes really high when the issue is happening. it’ll never touch the bottom of the graph like it normally does.

What version of Plex are you on for your fire stick or Android client?

Yeah if you also take notice when it happens, it’ll go into a paused state.

correct. for me it pauses and unpauses in the status…

It auto-updates, but just checked, it’s on 8.13.1.23036 which should be the latest for the Firestick; it’s been happening prior to this version.
