How long do you expect the outage to last?
Should be over. You may need to restart apps and/or your server?
Did all that and still it says “You do not have access to this server”
Replying here because the bigger thread is now locked:
Would this outage interrupt playback if I’m already logged in?
I was watching a movie and the server suddenly became unreachable. This was about 2 hours 25 minutes ago. (I believe it’s all working now!)
I just set up Plex for the first time about a week ago, and I’m still trying to learn how to recognize different issues, their causes, and their solutions.
Edit: I was using it from a device on the same local network.
My server says unclaimed and I cant even log in to claim it. I cant stream anything outside my network…any word on this?
I noticed this about 12 hours ago while at work now still not fixed.
To all reading here,
I have reopened the main discussion thread.
I’m here for everyone and will help in every way I can.
I only ask we remain cordial, calm, and respectful.
Down in Denver.
Why? No offense by if you and plex as a company cannot take criticism and angry users then perhaps you should realize there is a problem and resolve the issue. I agree with the “if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen” approach you are taking but when the company’s actions start the fire–over and over again, then maybe they should actually do something to extinguish the flames permanently.
Closing each and every single thread and ignoring the userbase isn’t going to magically solve the issue and make it go away. Though it may make Plex’s revenue stream go away when users finally cannot take it any more and switch to another platform
You are placing your frustrations in the wrong location sir. Allow the users to discuss what they want to discuss without intervention. Attempting to silence people via a dictatorship heavy-handed approach isn’t going to make it go away.
There is a point between discussing an outage and going wildly off-topic.
As long as this thread stays on-topic (the outage) and doesn’t diverge into something else, I am TOTALLY COOL with it.
If desired, I will resign from this thread.
There are plenty of other issues requiring my attention at this time.
How is it “wildly off-topic?”
Down is down and if my local infra is negatively impacted by an online service having issues, then I would say it is very much on-topic.
Closing threads isn’t going to make the end-user any less upset, they will just become more vocal and belligerant and open up more threads.
What’s the deal. the status.plex.tv says its all good to go, but mine is still unreachable. Anyone else still having trouble?
I’ve moved you to a new thread.
You should have received a notification email of that thread for how to use PMSLib
from File Station.
I have the same issue, when i click on get free account, it says redirecting standby and nothing happens.
I am very disappointed as I am unable to get to my Plex Server from any of my devices. When I check the Plex Status page is says “All Systems Operational”. I have re-booted my Synology NAS that Plex runs on, as well as my devices that access the server. If everything is operational why can’t I log into the server or access its content?
This is why you’re off topic:
Topic 1: outage (who is it working for, who is still impacted, who has found a workaround…) – short term
Topic 2: Discuss Plex architecture - long term - not the topic here.
And don’t misunderstand me, I agree with you on the architecture, but you’re being a troll here.
Closing threads going off-topic helps the admins focus on important, valuable and on-point feedback. And no, not every thread is being closed.
You are welcome to start a different thread called “Plex architecture is f***ed up” if that makes you feel better (and I’ll happily +1 it). Because if the topic of thread doesn’t matter anymore, we should simply remove the threading functionality, that would be less confusing.
I encountered the same issue last night, I deleted the client I was using and reinstalled it, this allowed me back in.
So bottom line,
When plex will fix this issue with network connectivity? Because it boils down to that.
Our infrastructure goes down (effect) when we have an unreachable or a non-responsive upstream server (cause). My guess would be that this is caused by unsound architectural choices or lack of caching on our local infrastructure. Whatever the implementation details are, this can be no more and must be fixed with priority.
I am insisting on that for two reasons
- Because I find it increasingly ridiculous not being able to contact my local server and browse through my family;s pictures and videos, just because internet is down or api is down.
- Given the Corona madness our global networks seem to be strained (governments and states are asking internet services to throttle their networks so they don’t cause outages - example) and this can have detrimental effect on the service
Consequently this must be resolved with priority. When will plex plan to resolve it?
Hi there,
I opened my own thread about it but this one makes sense as it opens to architecture discussion
I work in IT and I put tremendous efforts to have the most secure, reliable and performant server for my needs.
For me, it is just not understandable not to have access to a local server whenever there is problems. I can understand limited functionality but not having access at all, not acceptable.
But also, in my job, complaining is NEVER ENOUGH, you have to bring solutions…
Here are some though for development :
- I think you are being authenticated everytime you access your Plex server : why not caching the authorized users on the server itself ?
- If the server itself requires authentification, why not do it randomly (to avoid congestion) once in a while and add a grace period so IF there is an outage when required, you can still use it.
- Also, what happened to me: refresh a music library didn’t work as it didn’t had “Internet Connectivity” : I had to restart the server this morning to make it work again. Probably a bug to fix.
So and you, what are your thoughts for improvement ?
I checked the Plex status page and it says everything is “operational” but I still can’t connect my Plex via Remote Access. I use the Nitehawk R9000 and never had any problem like this before. Any idea why it’s down?
