Plex.tv outage in Seattle

Edit: LOOKS LIKE WE’RE BACK ONLINE. Thanks Plex!

In Seattle area, possibly related to Xfinity, DNS “A” record for plex.tv domain is pointing to some AWS nodes in the UK. All clients affected. Can’t log in to forums (I’m posting from my phone to bypass my ISP).

Outage is multiple hours old at this point. Not sure who to contact so hopefully Plex team can work it out.

How do we get official eyes on this. Starting to get ugly: https://downdetector.com/status/plex/

Edit: “No incidents reported” for November 5 on status page. What’s the correct way to report them?

Another reporting in from Washington State. Had to vpn somewhere else to login and post this. plex.tv has been down for hours.

Comcast/Xfinity has been known to block Plex in their “advanced security” software that needs to be turned off. (some info at the bottom of article here)

We have some employees in the Seattle area, but not sure if they have Comcast. Gonna ping them if they have get the same.

Thanks for the reports

thank you @BigWheel … i do not use their modem myself so that shouldn’t be the issue here at least. i’d be intrigued to see what the issue is

Thank you. Please let us know. Also experiencing this issue under Comcast Xfinity. I confirmed it’s not the adblocker, IDS/IPS or malicious IP blacklisting from Ubiquiti security gateway.

  • I’m unable to access app.plex.tv and load the server. The page loops in the authentication method and finally times out with the “Plex is not reachable”
  • I’m also unable to log into Plex account under plex.tv. The authentication also times out.
  • I’m able to access media from Plex app and Vizio app. It takes time to start the app. But eventually jumps into the media page.

Please don’t post them here publicly as they may have sensitive tokens in them, but are you seeing any errors in browser console log when hitting URLs trying to sign in at app.plex.tv or forums

I don’t have xfinity advanced security enabled. Browser network console shows no response at all from plex.tv URLs. Ping gets no response, Tracert gives up a couple jumps after reaching the UK.

Time to jump on the bandwagon

Seattle, Xfinity, can’t connect to a server wired on the same network on my PS5 or my smart tv.

Same issues here. I’m in Bellevue with Comcast, I have my own modem and router. I can access Plex on my server from 127.0.0.1 but not from the static ip I assigned my server (I get to select a user and then I get a something went wrong). Also my remote access setting seem to say it’s fully accessible outside my network but then has “Unknown IP”

Same here. Anyone have any work around or fix?

Can all impacted try using Cloudflare, Google or Quad 9 instead of Comcast DNS?

I do not use Xfinity hardware.
I needed to hotspot from my phone to post this.

I am using the Google DNS for IPv4 and IPv6 and I still cannot log onto the Plex website or use my server. I needed to hotspot from my phone to post this.

Update: I tried other DNS settings with no luck in getting Plex to work

I thought it was a problem with Android TV so I reset the app and now I can’t log in

Using hotspot on AndroidTV and laptop allowed me to get and enter the code to activate

Same problem here most of the day. If I use my cell phone I can get to plex.tv but all devices connected to Comcast won’t. I’ve tried changing dns so it’s not a resolution issue. My guess is some bad routing somewhere.

Same issue. Xfinity. Seattle. My own modem. Tried all manner of DNS. Was troubleshooting for like 2 hours before I found my way here. 🤦

Also been having an issue logging into Plex most of the day, got logged out and now trying to log in pops up a blank login screen, logged in fine through my VPN.

I can get to the app.plex page but it only has my singular login none of the family logins and does not have my photo.
