Plex under 4g connection doesn't use all the bandwidth

Server Version#: 1.22.0.4163
Player Version#: web: 4.53.0
Hi to everyone, i’m writing from italy, so first of all excuse my bad english. I’ll try to expose my problem:
I set my PMS to remote access successfully, 3 of my friends are able to see my contents at relatively high bitrate (to 50mbps), and everyone uses fibre wired connection.
My girlfriend, instead, uses 4g lte connection through a 4g lte huawei modem (b818-263) with a connection speed between 17 and 60 mbps (the max during the evening). Streaming with plex, it can’t reach speed higher than 500 kB/s (about 4mbps) so i have to limit that to 4mbps and can’t utilize it properly.
Is it possible her provider limit plex bandwidth?
Or plex utilize only a certain percentage of internet speed no matter what? Can i force somehow plex speed, since i have enogh bandwidth?
Thanks for all the answers.

Remote Clients are limited by their Remote Quality setting.

Nothing you do at the server will override that setting in the Remote Client Plex App.

The ‘Default’ is 720p @ 4Mbps (usually).

For mobile apps there is most likely a setting to limit quality when on Cellular Data. That too must be fiddled with in the client app.

Hi JuiceWSA, thanks for your answer.
I tried to put 8mbps as quality from the CLIENT, it often buffer, and trying before and after a connection speed test, i always obtain much more than 8 mbps, at least the double or more. Sometimes i have to put 2mbps as connection speed from the CLIENT, but i’m bit disappointed since i have 30mbps or more of connection speed available.

Your cellular isp is probably limiting streaming or something I would bet. You getting speed info from speedtest.net?

Try changing port 32400 to something else.

Hi mediacenterkodi84, thanks for your answer.
I was also of the same opinion, but i tried connecting to a cable wired connection much worse than the 4g lte connection, such as 1.7mbps in down and some bananas in up :D. Same situation: plex uses at least 0.2mbps of connection, and not the entire bandwidht available. So i think that plex uses only a certain percentage of available bandwidth.
For the 32400 port, do you intend from the PMS network? Why haven’t other users any problem with the same port?

I was just thinking in case they were limiting data on 32400. Your isp that is, since it’s cellular.

Quality and Remote Quality are two separate settings in the Client App.

Play a file, then look at the PMS Dashboard.
See if you’re in a Direct Connection or Relay.
If in Relay - you’ll have to fix that before you can hope to succeed.

Yes, i always change both before testing. I set them at the same value, but i think the important one is remote quality right? For the relay, from the PMS i don’t have it enabled, so i’m in direct connection with every user, and my PMS is full accessible from the internet (green) and port opened on the modem.

Tried different things, but in the end i was able to connect the 4g lte connection client to a friend server without any issues, so i demonstrate my girlfriend’s 4g provider doesn’t limitate the bandwidth. But i’m still stuck to 5-600KB/s when she tries to connect to my server. I tried also to add my libraries to my friend’s account (he is plex pass) but with no success. The only difference between my server and his is that i use windows PMS and he uses Synology one. Both have 200mbps upload speed and i’m able to stream successfully to other 3 user fiber connected, but not to my girlfriend with 4g connection. Any advice? Is someone able to understand the log file if i upload it here?
