Plex update 8/21/2019

To start I am a novice Plex user at best. I am running a windows 10 computer with a QNAP on my network. I run everything off of my QNAP, but have it set up to where I can log in through my computer to control everything and upload new media files. With that said, I tried updating Plex to the latest version 1.16.5.1488, and it downloads the file, but it won’t assign the file type correctly. Then I accidentally assigned it as a PDF and now it will not initiate the update and I cannot find out what program to assign to it to initiate the auto update from there. I have tried deleting the file and re-downloading, but of course it wants to reassign it as a PDF. Any help?

I usually right click on things and choose Save File As… when downloading archives.

Let’s assume you got the updated Plex Server qpkg file downloaded to your PC.

If it’s not well named:

  • You can move it over to the QNAP like you do any video, by using a share or by scp or ftp.
  • If you move it to the QNAP, then you can open File Station and rename it with the .qpkg extension.
  • You can move the file back to your PC

Then follow the advice from flow about Installing a qpkg manually.
Kinda of roundabout advice, but it avoids using Windows, which is my goal.

Thanks, this essentially worked, I just had to initiate the manual install of the file from my QNAP NAS.
