I am running iMac with OSX 11.6.5, Safari Version 15.4 (16613.1.17.1.11, 16613), and PMS Version 1.25.9.5673-bf5697c5d.
It has been happening for quite a while. Every time I ask PMS to “Open Plex”, it starts up with the Plex Web Setup. Did a bit of research, and all the answers seem to be a variation of “make sure you are not deleting cookies when you exit Plex window”. As stated above, I am using Safari. As far as I can tell, Safari does not offer the option to delete cookies on exit. This is quite annoying, as you can imagine.
There’s all kinds of browser add-ons/plug-ins that’ll automatically delete cookies or locally stored data — even in Safari. There’s even dedicated apps in Apple’s App Store that’ll regularly wipe that stuff.
Do that’s still the first place to check. If the web client cannot access/keep its customizations, it’ll keep asking you to redo the setup
How do you open the web app?
Do you have a bookmark/shortcut stored? If so, make sure it only points to https://app.plex.tv and doesn’t have any additional parameters appended to it.
Check that you are not connecting to the PMS directly using http://[IP address of you Plex system]:32400/web/index.html#. You want to sign in using https://app.plex.tv.
Thanks Ottokerner and run2789.
So normally, I have the Plex server icon on the menu bar at the top of the Apple screen together with a bunch of other apps. It seems, based on your suggestion, when I select “open plex…” from the drop down menu, I have to re-select my preferences. But if I do like you suggested and instead I open the link https://app.plex.tv on my browser, it is not an issue.
Is the difference between the two approaches a bug or a feature?
