When I watch any video content in Plex Web with Automatic Quality enabled, the playback skips ahead ~10 seconds whenever the quality is automatically adjusted. I’ve tried Chrome and the new Microsoft Edge browsers, and the issue occurs in both. When I manually choose a transcoding option, no skipping occurs (but the video often freezes due to my variable internet speed, which is why I love Automatic Quality so much!). I’ve included my server logs that I downloaded right after the issue was encountered.
My server is on a Windows machine.
Any ideas to what might be causing this? I’m happy to provide any additional information. Thank you!
I am having the same issue and no idea why its happening. It only happens on the web player and not on my amazon fire stick Plex app. It always skips when the quality is adjusted but I’m not sure how long the skip is though, its short so I probably the same as kirkados. I really hope someone can look into this as it is a great feature but very frustrating when I can’t use it on the web player.

Just adding my voice to this issue, the problem is now affecting FireFox 82.0.3 on Windows 10. Not sure if this a regression or added issue. Using the “alternate streaming protocol for video playback” does not solve the issue as it may have with Chrome based browsers.
It definitely seems to be related to the Automatic Quality setting. If the Automatic Quality setting is disabled, the issue goes away.
I am using Firefox 83.0 64bit on Windows 10 version 20H2 with Plex server version Version 1.21.0.3616 and I am having the same skipping issues. It’s been jumping about 6 or more seconds forward. Any attempt to go back and play the skipped section fails. I noticed this starting after I upgraded to the 20H2 version of windows. I tried all of the suggestions above and still had the skipping problem. I checked some other settings under the Web player and disabled the following, Under Quality, uncheck the Auto Adjust and uncheck “Play smaller videos at original quality”. I also unchecked “Normalize Multi-channel Audio” under Player. Those changes seem to have resolved the issues for now. I went back and checked videos that were skipping and they are no longer doing so. But I have noticed the progress bar randomly bounces backwards and then goes back to the correct location. However, the video and audio still play smooth.
This is a constant issue. What’s the point of an automatic quality option of it’s practically unusable?
Happens in Chrome, and now on mobile (Android - Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G)
