Plex Web's new search - some feedback and issues

As you well know Discover Credits cannot be disabled from search. Please be precise with statements around what can and cannot be disabled as its misleading and inaccurate.

Nothing new in the great and wonderful ‘we listen to people about what needs to be accomplished by our software?? World of know-it-all Plex’?

Any update on the status of fixing the outstanding issues with search? For instance, I see “No results were found” appear for a few seconds before the actual (local) results are shown, and Plex Discover content like actors etc is appearing in the search results with Discover disabled.

Any update on the status of fixing the outstanding issues with search? For instance, not being able to search for words within words and only being able to search prefix of words??? Anything???

Plex Discover content like actors etc is appearing in the search results with Discover disabled.

No plans to change this for now.

I see “No results were found” appear for a few seconds before the actual (local) results are shown

Is this consistently reproducible? This is observed on app.plex.tv or when using the bundled web app on your PMS? What is the Web version? I can’t recall seeing this myself, or it being mentioned as a constant issue.

not being able to search for words within words and only being able to search prefix of words

This is in reference to the example of querying “burn” and expecting “Brightburn” in the results? Nothing new to report.

We are continuing to work on improvements for Search internally. No ETA, sorry. If there is any more feedback you can share, please continue to share.

I hope this will be reconsidered. It is non-intuitive, and contrary to the user’s wishes, which are made clear by their disabling of online sources.

Search has completely stopped working for me it does not return any results. I have search around the web for solutions but nothing has helped. I am currently running server version Version 1.32.6.7468.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

@santiagohl Need more details. Is this app.plex.tv, a desktop app, or the bundled web app (IP:PORT/web)? Is your server claimed?

This would be using firefox, chrome or edge browser on a windows 10 pc. The plex server also runs on the same pc. The search used to work fine a couple version back but once I performed the last 2 update the search no longer works. My server is claimed and plex port open on local machine both in and out traffic as well as white listing all the plex server apps in the firewall. The port is also open in the router an fully accessible from a remote location.

When you asked for the IP it got me thinking about testing via the loop back ip and if I access the plex server on the pc via the browser using 127.0.0.1:32400/web then the search works but if I try to access plex via 192.168.10.xx:32400/web then the search does not work however everything else seems fine.

So why would search feature work via the loop back address but not the default IP on the server?

I did try disabling the firewall as well as virus protection and that did not restore the search feature.

@santiagohl Just to confirm 192.168.10.xx:32400/web is IP of the machine you’re on, correct? 192.168.10.xx:32400/web and 127.0.0.1:32400/web would be the same machine, correct? Is app.plex.tv working?

Correct 192.168.10.xx:32400/web and 127.0.0.1:32400/web are indeed the same machine. app.plex.tv seems to work fine every including the search works. The same goes when using a roku and the plex app everything works including search.

This does not make sense to me at all. If I am able to perform searches while using a remote device and able to on the local machine using the loop back address 127.0.0.1:32400/web to connect to the plex sever or if using the web app by going to app.plex.tv. It should also work with the local IP of the device. The only thing that does not work when using the local IP 192.168.10.xx:32400/web is the search everything else works perfectly fine.

So I have downgraded to Plex server Version 1.31.3.6868 and now everything work no issues with search what so ever. Plex also runs so much smoothly now as well.

Whatever the issue is it will be with Version 1.32.6.7468

Is the new Plex Web search going to be rolled out to the client’s?

I’m not understanding what you’re asking? Can you be more specific?

Each client (Apple, Android, Smart TV, Roku, etc.) has their own search. Web is a bit unique and is afforded additional features (full results page).

Ah OK, I was hoping this new search would also be rolled out to each client as that is what I use to consume my media most of the time.

So it’s only going to be used for the Web interface?
