Synology Plex Media Server "This site can’t be reached"

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309-f5213a238 and attempted 1.19.5.3112-b23ab3896

I have an existing Windows based Plex Media Server (latest version) and I am attempting to install Plex Media Server on a Synology DS920+. However every time I try to launch Plex through the DSM software (latest version) I get the error “This site can’t be reached”. I have tried turning off my Windows PMS manually, logging out of plex.tv completely, several restarts etc., with no luck. It will no launch from DSM.

I’ve also tried this from another thread:
Download Plex again, but do NOT use Safari or Chrome to download the file as they have been known to not complete the download correctly.
Stop Plex from running on the NAS.
Uninstall Plex.
Delete the Plex user in Control Panel > Users
Delete the Plex Shared folder in Control Panel > Shared Folders
Reboot the NAS
Reinstall Plex using the freshly downloaded file

I do not have any firewalls, VPNs, etc. that may be causing an issue.

How did you try to access the newly installed Plex Media Server on your Synology – are you e.g. using Synology’s “Quick Connect”?
Can you access the running Plex Media Server via http://[IP of the DiskStation]:32400/web

Yes I have been attempting via Quick Connect with the address http://[SERVERNAME].synology.me:32400/web and I always get " This site can’t be reached" and "[SERVERNAME].synology.me took too long to respond.

Also if I have the Windows PMS on and running, it will automatically default to that server. And I cannot see the Synology server at all

See above… use http://[DiskStation IP address]:32400/web instead.

The server will not show in the hosted version of Plex Web (http://app.plex.tv/desktop) until you have completed the setup and linked it to your Plex account.

Thank you, apologies. So I was able to log in and was given the screen:
Plex Web would like to sign in to your Plex account
This application is at [IP ADDRESS] and is not hosted by Plex. Continue only if you recognize this server and wish to grant access.

When I sign in with my existing Plex account, I’m greeted with the standard Plex Web Setup: Customize your Media - Choose what you’d like to have in your sidebar navigation menu. (You’ll always have easy access to everything, so you can make changes and further customize your menu later.)

I see my existing libraries, and just choose “FINISH SETUP”.

However when at the next screen (the web home screen) and in settings, I do not see the the Synology device as a server anywhere. Am I looking in the wrong area? In addition when I add or modify a library, I cannot choose the directories within the Synology drive which start with a simple “”

Have you checked the More item in the navigation bar?
If you didn’t create a new library, on the new server, you can do that under More as well (or via Settings > [new Server name] > Manage > Libraries)

Never mind, I can only access the website “http://[DiskStation IP address]:32400/web” if my Windows PMS is running. If the Windows PMS is NOT running, I get the same " This site can’t be reached" error whether I directly type in the IP or use Quick Connect. And the Synology server does not appear in my list of servers at all. Only my Windows PMS server shows up. Is it possible there’s an issue with my existing Plex account?

If the server is running you should always be able to access it through its local IP address. If the server name is not showing or that server’s settings are not showing up that way, this implies Plex has some hiccup (e.g. if you had tried linking it to a different Plex account before).
This should however be irrelevant if you actually removed the Plex share on your NAS before installing the server.

Not sure how those random steps you described in your first step could have corrupted the setup.

Well I’ve tried 4 different devices. The Synology Plex Media Server will not launch at all. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Or should I reach out to Synology at this point?

If you reach out to Synology, they will only send you right back to us unless they can determine there is a physical problem with the unit.

I would like you to do the following:

  1. Go to Control Panel - Shared Folders
  2. Fine the Plex share
  3. Click the EDIT button
  4. Now click the Permissions tab
  5. Check the R/W box on the same line as the username you use to sign into it.
  6. Save (OK) those changes.
  7. Open FileStation
  8. In the left pane, you will see the Plex share listed. That’s where all your metadata (Plex internal stuff) is stored.
  9. Navigate into it Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server
  10. You’ll now see the Logs directory
  11. Right-Click Logs and select Compress to Logs.zip
  12. When that completes, download it to your computer
  13. Now upload it here (give it time to fully upload before clicking “Reply”

Ok, I started with a fresh install of Synology’s Plex Media Server from their Package Center (version 1.18.5.2309-f5213a238)

I followed all of the instructions. Attached are the log files

Logs.zip (84.8 KB)

Hello, this thread can be closed. I contacted Synology and there was a corrupted setting and it is resolved. Thank you for your assistance.
