this is absurd.
How many folders are on your Syno?
- those are the numbers of my folders.
Your entire Synology server only has 8 folders?
yup (for ā ā ā ā sake, I need a certain amount of charās to make this entry?)
Your server has more than 8 directories, You can reference the table size FAQ and see what your value is, and increase it to 98,304.
Why wont you upgrade past 1.22?
Ill also note that I have seen multiple naming issues in how you organize your media.
and you can faq your faq and who knows⦠WHAT?
what value increase? where did you come up with 98, 304?
Because, plex, in its infinite wisdom took away grid view, and therefore I wont upgrade past their complete stupidity. the naming issue is because plex wont delete anything anymore. Yes, I cant even delete a linked folder now. Nothing works anymore, and support sucks.
There are naming issues, because i have tried numerous times to figure this ā ā ā ā out myself, or tried to follow your completely crazy, self understanding reasons to undo what is clearly the simplest of things⦠attach a folder with movies to a link in plex. And all Iāve gotten is a ā ā ā ā ton of doās and dontās, faqās and more faqās that make NO SENSE.
you really are on the verge of being antagonisticā¦
If you already knew how many directories, why the hell would you ask me, then chide me, on how many I have? not a good foot to start out onā¦
can anyone help me other than dbirch (dbitch)
I want my money back.
If my phone doesnāt work, I get my money back. If PLEX doesnāt workā¦
I get complicated ā ā ā ā that leads to nothing. Either lead me to production, or stop ā ā ā ā ā ā ā with meā¦
This issue has nothing directly related to plex. Its caused by the growth of your media beyond the file monitoring of the OS running on Synology. Synology has set limitations on their underlining OS, linux. As you have decided to run plex directly on Synology you have now hit this limitation.
Its a three step process which has been covered in the doc linked above :
- find how many folder you have in your media
- do some math to work out your new value
- apply that value to your Synology NAS via the task
What part specifically are you having an issue with ? If 1 and 2 are tricky then Iād suggest trying a value of 65536 and see if the problem goes away. If not increase that value by another 32768 and try again. Rince & repeat until these [Notify] errors go away.
Alternatively you can just decide to run Synology purely as a NAS and run plex on a dedicated PC (windows for example) mapped to your media on the NAS. That would ALWAYS be my recommendation for anything but small plex libraries. Synology are fantastic at being a NAS, not great at being a server service IMO. Then you wonāt then run into this limitation ā¦
What are 1 and 2?
why do you continually make me your opposite?
my degree is in budapest, the third street in andover is the most prevelelentā¦
seems the same when you talk to meā¦
ok, that was informative.
The reason I asked for how many folders are on your Synology is for the formula in the linked FAQ. You can use that formula to calculate an updated value for the size of the inotify table. When you came back with a snarky answer of ā8ā and I asked you to verify that, then checked your server logs as that was questionable and saw obvious signs of more than 8, I ran the calculations in the FAQ and bumped it one additional unit to a total size of 98304.
It is challenging to assist someone who is unwilling to assist in the resolution of the issue.
As for asking about .22 I was actually curious for your rationale, Im not sure which grid view you are referring to that was removed as I still use grid as my default.
excellent. that is the tone and answer I expect. I am a moron when it comes to this and I just want straight answers. so, where can we go from here? I did the math too, but dont know how to apply it. also, in my lack of patience, I keep trying to delete PLEX and reinstating it, but it seems to be cumulative⦠i now have 3 folders of āotherā because they wont delete⦠believe me, I have triedā¦
please, I apologize about being snarky⦠just frustrated and this whole mess.
why is plex so much trouble?
Plex itself isnt the issue, rather you are dealing with synology issues.
If I were in your shoes, I would:
- create a new library structure (one for movies, one for TV shows)
- Fix your naming issues (create the folder structure and rename files to match plex recommended settings)
- Per the linked FAQ above and Task Scheduler | DSM - Synology Knowledge Center create a scheduled task to update the inotify table size.
- Completely uninstall plex from the NAS
- Per https://support.plex.tv/articles/202915258-where-is-the-plex-media-server-data-directory-located/ remove any remaining remnants (including your old database and config settings)
- re-install plex
- Create new libraries according to the media type(s)
- Add the respective cleaned up library paths to plex
- Let plex scan and import everything (can take a while given you are on a Syno)
- ??? Profit ??
