Plex will not add all my new folders and shows series i long since deleted. Despite scanning library

Server Version#: 1.32.5.7349-7000 On my NAS
Player Version#: 1.76.2.3951-15712eae on Windows 11.

So i refreshed my library using my Settings—>Manage----> Library (Scan Library Files) as well as the 3 bars/TV Shows/3 dots menu/scan library files AND Refresh Meta Data just to be safe.

so when i did this for the first time in a long time i was hoping it would remove the files i no longer have. its keeps those and adds files i once had on the NAS drive, but never viewed on plex, and deleted months or a year ago. I have no idea where it would catch the ghost of files long gone, as if i just added them.

It shows 3 episodes of one season of a series i have 4 complete series of, and at the very least, the file names are the same in each season, and still the list is incomplete despite numerous refreshes.

i also tried to add a new media folder (tv shows within my main TV show folder, to add the seasons manually. I can see several system folders , but i know its in Volume 1. that leads to my mapped drives and folders including my media. but when i click the media folder Volume 1 in my NAS, it doesnt show any folders within like TV or movies, but on the navigation side shows that i am within Media and looking at a config folder that DOES not exist in my folder… and i can only back out to the root of the volume 1. but my media folder is not navigable in this menu. i can however browse my NAS drive in windows and other devices without issue. It is PLEX that cannot seem to find the folders and imagines a config folder that does not exist. it reffuses to let me progress within my own NAS like a normal good functioning program

i am very frustrated after being told by my friend how he loves plex. How it just works. I wish i could see that world. it would be great to just use plex to just watch things i have, and not be shown to have things i no longer have.

also i don’t know if its unrelated but Remote Access keeps …not. it says not avaialble outside my network. but when i just hit retry, it’s green for private and public. then a few minutes later its back to saying not public.

The likely cause:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

how does that explain it showing files that i do not have?

this is how i have one of my troubled folders. is it not within the plex standard? from what i have read it seems to be. unless i missed something. why are the other episodes missing but the first 3 are shown? also i have all 4 seasons from the same source, so they are named the same way. and they don’t appear at all.

To remove files no longer on the system:

  1. Scan the library (or server)
  2. Empty trash for individual libraries or for entire server
Individual Library: Settings → Libraries, three dots to right of library name
    Entire server: See pic below
  3. Clean bundles
Settings → Troubleshooting or see pic below

Please show how you have the files named and organized. Screenshot, directory listing, etc.

Include the full path to the files, and indicate which folder is added to the library.

Example screenshot from File Station. tv is the folder added to the TV Show library:

i just did the clean bundles, and i still have dead shows in my list they show as unavailable when i click them. was i supposed to do a new media library scan after or should it be immediate? should i include a video of me doing these tasks?

as for one of the defective folders, here is the filestation photo

and the plex result. showing only a partial count.

and those don’t even work at all.

and then me playing the video off my drive immediately after getting the mounting error, showing it works perfectly and plex is a liar. my one NAS drive is working and mounted all the time.

and the ghost entry for Titans (as clearly not in my filestation photo as a folder nor as loose files) after i did the bundles cleaning

It looks like you have…

What We Do In the Shadows/What We Do In the Shadows (2019) Season 1/ What We Do In the Shadows s01e01.[optional info].mkv

The season folder should only say “Season 1, or Season 01”

You need to follow Plex naming & organization requirements.

  • Make sure you add the correct folder to the library
  • Use a season folder

Plex Dance the entire show after any renaming/reorganizing

/TV Shows to watch <-- folder added to TV Show library
../What We Do In The Shadows (2019) <-- show_name (intro_year)
..../Season 01 <-- "Season" in English
....../What We Do In The Shadows (2019) - S01E01 Pilot (....).mkv

ok i could do that. but i have a folder that seem to already do that and they are not appearing either

Like the venture Bros.

which does not appear at all in plex despite having the folders just marked as seasons

have i missed something with that. is it the period in the title causing issues?

Pencil → Info

What is the path to the file?

the info

and the reality (showing my folders in the side bar, there is no titans folder)

3 dots next to the library → Manage Library → Edit → Add Folders

Please take a screen shot of the folder/folders you have added for the entire tv library

ok to keep both my problems in mind, here is me rescanning the library after renaming what we do in the shadows

and rescanned (showing i was doing the rescanning properly. or at least what i have to assume is properly)

and the end result (time stamp inlcuded to show current time) is no change in the library .

the only change instead of getting a mounting error when trying to play i get this now for the 3 files i get “unavailable” So i checked the location it was looking for.

so its NOT looking at the folders that actually exist but in the root folder for the TV shows that it is NOT in. should cleaning bundles have not killed dead links? should the scanning have not replaced it with the entire series which should now be in the proper naming convention?

and to answer the tv library folder , here is the entire library according to plex.

Thanks for the update.

Make sure the server is set for debug level logging. Do not enable verbose logging. Restart PMS if you change the log level.
Settings → Server_Name → General + Show Advanced

Next, please Plex Dance the entire What We Do in the Shadows show.

If that does not fix the problem for the show, please pull the server logs and upload the zip file to the thread.

It must be out of the view of all Plex libraries.

got it. thank you for the clarity!

ok first i moved the shadows series out of the media library folder, to the main root drive of the NAS unit. i have done the library rescan, emptied trash, and cleaned bundles, and the ghost files for Shadows is still there. as well as titans, the show i do not have, and therefore cannot move.

have i missed a crucial step?

You did not miss a step. Shadows should not be there.

Please pull the log files and upload them to the thread.

it says the zip file is too big. are there certain files i can select from within? or should i extract it into a folder and make 2 smaller zips for separate uploads

Weird. It is just a bunch of text files and should be well under the forum limit.

Anyway…

Upload the Plex Media Server.log file and its rollovers, .1.log to .5.log.
