Plex with iTunes Library and DRM

Is there ANY way to play movies downloaded from iTunes? About 90% of my library are movies and TV Shows that were purchased through iTunes or the TV app on the Mac. None of them will play because of DRM. That pretty much makes Plex useless. I went the Plex route because it iTunes Server app on the Synology doesn’t seem to work at all. It looks like I’m stuck with an expensive NAS doorstop.

Plex cannot play DRM protected media from any source.

I realize that after going through the support articles. What I’m wondering, is there anything I can do to alleviate this problem? Would Emby or some other media server have the capability to play DRM media? Can DRM be removed or bypassed? That last question probably has some legal ramifications.

AFAIK Emby, Kodi, etc are in the same boat. Apple, Google, Amazon, et al will not permit it.

That topic cannot be discussed on this forum due to legal ramifications.

buy/rent dvd/blurays and rip them the old fashioned way.

don’t give money to apple or anyone else that uses drm.

your drm content can be taken away/revoked at any time (movies/games/whatever), either on purpose or just cause the provider shut down.

Blu Ray discs also have DRM, and by ripping them you’re actually circumventing that protection!

As for the original question, yes there are combinations of software you can use to strip the DRM from iTunes videos, but depending on your use case, it might not be worth it. iTunes downloads are only HD, and are intended for tablets, not 50"+ television screens. They have noticeably worse picture and sound quality compared to Blu Ray rips.

As more and more content on iTunes gets upgraded to 4K, you’re better off getting an Apple TV 4K or using the Apple TV app (if your television supports it) and accessing your library that way instead of copying it all to Plex.

Let’s stick to not going down that road / discussion.
This definitely doesn’t belong into the Plex forum. I’ll therefore close this thread before people start asking for for more details.
