@Sparkz76 If you are experiencing the Windows bug issue, Plex was able to fix. Newest Plex Pass release mentions this.
@astrofisher - I have already tried installing the latest version of Plex - 1.4.1.3362 and it made no difference whatsoever. When I look in my process list Plex media server is in the list but I have no tray icon. I tried uninstalling the previous version, restarting and then installing the new and still nothing. It is exactly the same as before.
@Sparkz76 the specific update that caused these problems was KB3216755. Just uninstall that one and it should be fine.
@mark.swam I donāt have that particular update installed in my list.
Any log files being created under
C:\Users\spark\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs
And could you load RegEdit and look in registry area
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server looking to see if there is an item named
LocalAppDataPath and if there is, see if the path is valid
If it is valid, look for Plex Media Server\Logs folder below it
@sa2000 - Iāve gathered all the logs I could find from when I tried re-installing Plex. However just to note under \local there is no Plex media server - I found the logs in the temp \local\folder. Also when I go through Regedit the localappdatapath is set to my music folder? Iāve attached the logs I could find.

Those logs in the temp folder are setup / install / uninstall logs. Not relevant to the actual running of the server
The issue could be the LocalAppDataPath
Why is it set to the music folder?
What is the exact path in that registry (including drive / folder etcā¦)
and if you put that path exactly as it is showing within that registry item, put it in windows explorer, does it find the path?
Iām not sure why itās set to the music folder, although that is a valid path āD:\Musicā - When I install Plex Media Server it never gives me any options, other than the install folder. Iām running Windows 10 - 64bit, I assume Plex works on that? -The reason I ask is in Task manager in the processes section it says that Plex Media Server (32 bit) is running - I canāt find a download for 64bit?
should I change the path in LocalAppDataPath to something else?

If D:\Music is valid then there ought to be a D:\Music\Plex Media Server\Logs folder - is there one?
Any logs there?
Also there would be lots of other folders below D:\Music\Plex Media Server
If you delete the LocalAppDataPath item then it would use default path - which would be
C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local for the Plex Media Server folder. It would start new losing any previous setup info which I would expect to be within D:\Music\Plex Media Server
You can move this folder to the default location and delete the registry key and see what happens
FIXED!!! THANK YOU!! - So I deleted the entire Plex folder within Regedit, uninstalled Plex, restarted my PC and reinstalled Plex and itās now working. Thanks mate, I can start re-growing my hair that Iāve been pulling out!

Sorry what are you saying about the registry area Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server ?
Does it have any content ? what keys are set?
See if there are any logs here
C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs
where xxxxx is the windows username
Hi friends I also got the same issue. Did anyone find the solution about it?

I am sorry but there is not a specific general issue. Each case needs to be investigated
Possible causes for Plex Media Server.exe not launching:
- There is a
LocalAppDataPathsetting in registryHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Serverthat is referencing a path that does not exist anymore eg drive letter changed / drive not present - Another application using either of tcp ports 32400 / 32401
- A database corruption
Please first check the registry using RegEdit and if there is a LocalAppDataPath see what it contains
Look for the server logs
Default location (in absence of a LocalAppDataPath setting), is
C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs
Please copy the logs folder out and zip the copy and attach here
Is there a Plex Media Server.exe process showing in Windows Task Manager ?
Does the system tray Plex icon show and then disappear?
I work in China, so anything Google is problematic. I encountered the issue of no response to double clicking the Plex icon in the tray.
On my Surface Pro 3, I followed the advice in these forums. 127.0.0.1:32400/web/ just gave me no response. I completely uninstalled PMS (control panel, regedit and %localappdat%. Power off reboot. Reinstall PMS from Plex website. Same issues. Then I thought about how much I dislike Microsoft Edge and installed Google Chrome and set it as my default browser. Problem no longer exists.
On a second machine (dedicated Dell media laptop), with the same PMS no start issue, I just installed Google Chrome Beta and set it as my default browser. Problem is solved there also.
I have a decent understanding of tinkering with Windows but I typically do not. I expect Microsoft to keep it humming for me.
You could get no response to clicking the Open Plex link in the system tray icon if you do not have a default browser configured. May be Microsoft Edge was not set as the default?
There should be no reason for Edge not to work on the same machine. Thee may be issues from other machines because of built-in DNS Rebinding Protection within Edge and secure connections are used
Another possibility is if you set Enable Enhanced Protected Mode within Advanced Settings in Internet Options
You could see what the Plex Web app log shows when running Edge

her is a easy fix finde run type shell:startup press enter copy a shortcut in to the folder and the windos is set to run what is in that folder hope it helps
Press Win+R before typing in shell:startup
(the āRunā menu item is no longer visible in newer Windows versions)
Running into similar issues as mentioned in this thread, tried using the methods mentioned and ended up here!
Not seeing LocalAppDataPath
Could this be the reason my Plex media server wonāt launch?
No. If the localappdata key is missing, it means only that the Plex data folder is at the default location.
https://support.plex.tv/articles/202915258-where-is-the-plex-media-server-data-directory-located/
Edit the key logDebug and set it to 1
Then reboot your computer.
Wait a few minutes, then fetch log files manually
